In general do you know how far in advance you have to cancel a vendor (not the RH) before you are responsible for the balance?

Each vendor is different and you have to read the contract for each to see up until what time you have to cancel. I'd say that the sooner you cancel, the better because the vendor is more likely to re-book the date in which case you might get your deposit back.

The contract is very vague, I know we wouldn't get our deposit back either way, but even that was worded in a very convaluded (sp?) way on the contract!
