Cancelled Wedding Question

Was anyone ever supposed to have been a BM in a wedding that was called off?
If you already had your dresses ordered, and deposits paid, what happened? I am getting some very sketchy responses from Bridal Reflections (CP) and I want to see if this is normal.

I was in a wedding that was cancelled. We were all expected to pick up our gowns and pay them off in full, even though we didn't need them anymore. Most of the girls did but there's at least 2 of us who never picked up our gowns (shame on me for being one of them!) but it's really a pain in the a$$ because I don't even remember where the store is and NEVER get out there. I'll get around to it eventually but only because I believe that I'm legally obligated to do so...

my sister has a wedding dress under her bed from her cancelled wedding. She had the choice of losing the deposit, or paying the rest and getting the dress. She opted for the dress, thinking someday she'd wear it, though she doesn't like it anymore and wants to EBAY it.

we hadn't ordered our dresses yet.

EROX-Interesting.... thats exactly what they told me. The thing I didn't like was that the shop already knew the wedding was cancelled, she said the bride called. The wedding was cancelled in March, I never called until today and it was only out of sheer curiousity about what I 'should' be doing since no one else is talking about this. ugh....

LisaT - Personally thats what we thought would happen. The dress is 70% paid for. We figured if we wanted it, pay the rest. If not, then they keep it and we lose the deposit.

I didn't pick it up and I already paid well over $100 for it - but I'm NEVER going to use it - even though the bride says she'll use it if she ever decides to get married - its YELLOW for pete's sake! They did call me and tell me to pay them, but someone else told me (could have been the bride, don't remember) that the place will never actually sue us because it costs more to sue than the amount we owe...

we had to pay for our dresses in full. The wedding was cancelled over 5 years ago...the bride did get married and for some reason I still have the stupid dress. It was not a heinous dress at all and I keep telling myself that I can wear it somewhere or get it made into something different...but I never do.
