I don't have my hall contract with me but I was wondering if anyone knew, if you cancelled the hall a few months prior to the wedding date, what is the typical penalty? Do you just lose the deposit or do you have to pay a % of what your total was going to be?

Re: Cancelling Hall
It depends on the hall. Usually you just lose your deposit, but my hall only keeps $100 if they can rebook the date

Re: Cancelling Hall
I think you usually lose whatever you've put down til that point. You shouldn't have to give any additional funds tho.
Did you choose a different hall

Re: Cancelling Hall
I used Coral House and I remember if I cancelled I would loose all the money I had put down up to the point I cancelled.

Every hall/contact is different. Some will make adjustments due to circumstance.

Re: Cancelling Hall
definitely read your contract!! i would say you probably just have to forfeit any $$ you already paid in. however, the hall can come after you for extra $$ if they can prove they already purchased items for your wedding and they can't rebook the date.
good luck!!!!

Re: Cancelling Hall
I cancelled my first hall about a year before the date. I had only paid the initail deposit at that point, but they rebooked the room so I got it back (1/2 cash, 1/2 credit for thier restaurants). I think you would probably just lose the amount you have already paid.

Re: Cancelling Hall
I originally booked jericho terrace and after 2 months i cancelled it. They kept $1000.00 and they are still holding the remaining payments we maid to them. Once they book that room for that night for equal or greater value to what we had booked we get the remainder.

Re: Cancelling Hall
Read the fine print of your contract for all the details. Every hall, venue, restuarant, club are all different.
