Cancelling Photography Contracts: consequences??

Cancelling Photography Contracts: consequences??

One of the contracts I looked at for a photog vendor says that

'In the event the customer breaches the above agreement, customer shall be responsible for the full amount of agreed contract together w/ attorneys fees from the representation of (photo company).'

Ladies: do you have this in YOUR contracts? So if I change my mind after I sign this contract, does this mean they can go after me for the remainder of the balance even if I told them months in advance I dont want them to cover my wedding??

Anyone know? I really dont feel comfortable signing this tomorrow if I change my mind about photography 5 months from now..

Plus, I saw in a few reviews of Brides who just forfeited deposits when they changed photographers. and didnt have this problem. I am willing to lose 200-600 in deposits if for whatever reason, I find another photography company that totally takes my breath away in 6 months or something!

Help!

I don't remember having that in my contract! I would ask them if there is a time frame attached to that. With our DJ company it said if we cancel less then 6 months before the wedding we owe the full amount, we ended up cancelling way before that and unfortunately lost our deposit, but that is better then owing the full amount!! Never sign anything if you are not comfortable with it!!

On mind it had something that was depentant on the time frame in which you canceled and whether or not the can book the date.

Hmm I don't think that's in mine, but I don't have it with me. That doesn't sound right. I'd talk it over with them before signing and make sure you get them to add anything you discuss verbally to the contract.

that is not in my contract but if you are not already blown away by their work, do not book with them.
its not worth going through this hassle.

i was engaged once before and the whole thing got canceled 11 days before the date of the event.
i didn't have to pay the full amount but everything i had paid up to that point i lost. it was a couple of thousands by that point.

again, if your already this iffy about this photographer - then do not book with them. call and speak with someone and verify what the consequences are.

I have a similar point (just excluding attorney fees). Basically, most contracts I've seen, you will loose your deposit and if you cancel within 2 month, you will have to pay the full amount.
One contract I saw specified that if the photographer was able to find another job for the same amount you would just loose your deposit.

Basically, when I asked my photographer about this point. He explained that when booking he commits this time to you. With most booking hapenning 12 to 18 month in advance for a good photog, it's hard to find a replacement job in a 2 month time frame.

All my checklists for vendors have 'what is your cancellation policy' so you don't get surprised when they hand you a contract. The contract I have states 'In event of postponement or cancellation of this contract, the retainer paid is nonrefundable yet is transferable up to one year from the event date.' The retainer is the deposit.
