Cancun Honeymooners...Some Info
I know others have posted something similar, but I got this email today and I thought it would help....
Dear Ms. XXXX,
Before I get to this week's featured deals in tropical resorts, here's the update I promised regarding Cancun.
First of all, the recovery from the destruction of Hurricane Wilma is well under way. The Mexico Tourism Board reports that 5,000 hotel rooms are now available in Cancun, out of about 28,000. Another 13,700 rooms are available in the Riviera Maya towns of Playa del Carmen, Tulum, etc. Public services including electricity and water have been completely restored in Cancun, and the city is taking the opportunity to upgrade infrastructure by installing new street lights and signs, repaving sidewalks and roads, and planting new palm trees and gardens throughout the city. December 15 has been chosen as the official re-launch date for the areas affected by Hurricane Wilma, and special events and celebrations are being planned for that week, according to the Mexico Tourism Board.
Two major resort chains, Iberostar and Riu, have already opened the doors at their resorts in the Yucatan, and other popular resorts now open include Aventura Spa Palace, Secrets Capri Resort & Spa, Sunscape Tulum Riviera Maya and Viva Wyndham Azteca. El Dorado Seaside Suites will reopen later this week.
While some resorts in the Yucatan are open, many are still closed. I've posted all the projected reopening dates we could find for those resorts that remain closed, below. Keep in mind that some of these dates may change if repairs do not progress as anticipated. Also, as resorts reopen, they may not immediately feature all of their normal amenities and services.
