Candelabra centerpieces.

Candelabra centerpieces.

Is it cheesey to use candelabras instead of huge floral arrangements for my centerpieces? We feel like the hall is so beautiful that it doesn't need so many flowers, and that it can help cut our budget, but I'm thinking it might just make us look cheap!

I don't think it is cheap at all. Sometimes you can really overdo it with all the floral arrangements. I am doing the same thing with my wedding (hopefully). I am going to try to use candelabras and also rose petals on the table. I've been to too many weddings with floral arrangements and i wanted something different for my own wedding. JMO

From what I hear, flowers can start to add up before you know it. I also wanted to nix the whole problem of not seeing who's on the other side of the table because of the centerpiece. Ok, as long as I'm not alone!

I'm not using too many real flowers for my wedding in the first place. most will be silk. I am highly allergic to flowers and i don't want to break into hives on my wedding day

I don't think it is cheesy, it is more a matter of personal preference. I think the room would look elegant with just the candles.

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

We are getting married at the Bourne Mansion, and I have seen pictures of the entire place adorned with candles, and it was so beautiful, so I think we will go more with candles. I mean, there will be flowers, but just not a lot. We've been trying to get creative since we spent the majority of our money on the reception location. Well worth it though, I would go barefoot and boo-k less if I had to, I love it there so much! haha.

Does anyone honestly remember the flowers at weddings?? I'll tell you I don't. I was talking to a friend who was married and I asked her about the flowers at her wedding, and she was like, Cheryl- we didn't even have flowers, just candels! IMO don't go nuts with that stuff. I'm doing candelabras with ivy. Simple is chic!

where have you seen other photos of the Bourne!?! I've only seen the ones on their website which are the same as on their brochure.

I'm having my reception there Sept. 20, 2003!

Not cheesy at all!! I'm allergic to flowers also. I am using floating candles with fake flowers....it saved me lots of money!!

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

Are you dealing with Ben? He had books and books of pictures and he showed me some with the ballroom using candelabras and the sunroom with candles everywhere. He said candles seem to be a popular alternative to flowers. I think too many flowers would overpower the setting. Oh, and are you concerned about having only three bathrooms on the main floor? That was one of my concerns.

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

Yep, we're dealing with Ben!
When we booked the Bourne back in July, there hadn't been many weddings under Lessings yet, so maybe that's why they didn't have the photo books then. I'll have to make an appointment to meet with Ben to check them out!

I'm sticking with my flowers. I love them and definitely want to incorporate them into my wedding. (I have a thing for hydrangeas and roses. )

I never gave the bathrooms much thought. It shouldn't be that bad. It's not like there are other events going on.

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

You're right about the bathrooms, plus, Ben said they are redoing them soon. They are apparently putting some money into the plave because they have become so popular. I think Ben is about to kill us because we are there all the friggin time! I have a very close-knit family, and EVERYONE wants to see the place, I finally pulled the plug on the visits, haha. Who are you using for your flowers? And are you having a band or a DJ? I'm so excited to be talking to someone who's getting married there, most people are like, WHERE? haha

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

I get the same thing...'Where?' Then I have to explain where it is, etc.. I like the fact that not many people know about it!

I hope they have the bathrooms done before September!

I haven't been back inside the Bourne since I booked it, but I would like to go back to take some pics and show my mom & sis. I drove by it to show my sis and they were painting the columns and windows. We do need to meet with Ben to discuss some other things like the cake, etc..

Florist: Flower Michele (Huntington)
DJ: Parties Alive (most people haven't heard of them, but my sister and I got along really well with owner/MC. He's going to leave the cocktail music setup for the whole night, so there can be background music in the other rooms.)

That's great about the DJ, I'll have to check him out.
One of the great things about booking there was that it's such a unique place.
They recently had water damage in the ballroom from the snow and what not, and it looked a little scary at first, but I think they were painting this weekend. Other than that it all looked amazing. I just love the flexibility you have there. Are you doing the extended hour afterwards? We're still contemplating.

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

Oh no! Water damage! That s*u*c*k*s, but I would assume that would be repaired by the time our weddings come up!

My FH and I have discussed it and we're leaning towards yes.

My FH and I were ready to have a wedding in backyard. We had been looking into tents, caterers, etc., but had an appointment with Ben. We decided to check out the Bourne for the hell of it. We both walked in and went 'WOW!' I got so excited that I made Kevin call from the car when we left to put a deposit down! Like you said, it's so unique!

I had dreamed of Oheka, especially since my FH and I lived by it for a couple of years, but from what I understand, the ballroom wouldn't be able to accomodate 160+ guests. The Bourne didn't seem to have that problem.

We wanted Oheka too! But we just could not even begin to afford it!

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

Hi All,

I'm getting married at the Bourne in September also. I stopped by the Bourne in January and the restrooms were renovated and they looked great! I really a difference in the place. Also, I'm getting about 4 foot high silver candelabras for centerpieces with 5 candles. My florist, Flowers by Burton, has them for rental and they are stunning. I need to get a photo of them. What I really need to do is set up my profile website to post photos of all the things I'm doing, I just haven't had a chance to get around to it yet!
I love to hear people talking about the Bourne, b/c it's true that a lot of people haven't heard about it, which is definately a fact that I love!

Hi Erica!
I'm so happy to hear you are getting married at the Bourne as well. I would love to see the pictures of your centerpieces. I still have quite a bit of time to choose mine, but any ideas would help. Who else are you using for your reception?

Re: Candelabra centerpieces.

Wow, I took a look at those candelabra at John Anthony's and they are very elegant. I like the flower petals on the table around them, I couldn't see if they were rose petals, but very pretty! Thanks!
