Ok so I am going to do a hurricane vase with a pillar candle and rose petals. I got a candle and tried it out, the candle burned fine but the only problem was the candle kept moving around in the base or the hurricane vase. Any suggestions on how to keep the candle standing straight??? And next does anyone have any suggestions on where to get good quality dripless unscented ivory pillars??

Re: Candle Centerpieces
you can try put ting sand or beads at the bottom of the hurrican vase to hold the candle in place

Re: Candle Centerpieces
good idea about the beans, crystals, sand, etc. at the bottom of the hurricane vase.
i got my candles at www.paramold.com. They are in Sayville so I picked them up at the warehouse to save on shipping. Very high quality! (even John from Flower Michele asked where I got them)

Re: Candle Centerpieces
I used sand and colored glass stones in my hurricane lamps. There are pic in my DIY album.
Tip: I used play sand from Toys R Us for $9 for 5lbs. Instead of Michael's $5 for less than half lb!

Re: Candle Centerpieces
Go to Walmart for your candles, they have them in boxes and sell them in bulk. The candle will move around in the vase...ours did-but once ont he table it wont matter-no one will be picking them up until afterwards. We did this for our CPs and they were a huge hit
Good Luck

Re: Candle Centerpieces
Yep, this is exactly what I'm doing as a centerpiece. I ordered hurricane shades and flat bases from save-on-crafts.com
Most other hurricanes had a bump in the bottom and candles would not sit straight. My florist is filling each hurricane half-way with rose petals to fill it in a little and scattering around the table. Pic's coming in 4 weeks!!!

Re: Candle Centerpieces
hotglue the candle to the base or drip candle wax to the bottom to secure the candle while it tis still hot.

Re: Candle Centerpieces
I am doing something similiar. I am using sand. I am going to have more votives though and more petals.
you can try put ting sand or beads at the bottom of the hurrican vase to hold the candle in place
I was going to say the same thing. You can use sand that matches the color of your bp's dresses or maybe the clear marbles.

Re: Candle Centerpieces
Thanks everyone for the great ideas!! I guess I will just play around until it works out & stays straight. My sister just told me they sell some tacky stuff that you put under a candle to hold it in place, I am gonna try that, the only thing is that my hurricane isn't flat at the bottom, it has a space under the candle so the candle just kind of rests on the edges. I don't know if that makes sense?? Anyway I figured i'd share in case any of you can use it!!

Re: Candle Centerpieces
Also, if you are looking for a look without sand , QVC used to sell something called Museum wax. It would stick anything down so it didnt get knocked over.. even really heavy stuff on displays. i keep meaning to get some for home but forget!

Re: Candle Centerpieces
My mother helped with the centerpieces at my wedding. What she did was hot glued the candles ( with the paper price tag on the bottom. It helps hold the glue to the candle and the base) to the glass bowl it was on. They held up great. The only way the fell apart was when they were picked up by the candle itself. Try it out.

Re: Candle Centerpieces
Museum wax sounds like it is similar to the stuff my sister told me about. I will try our the wax first & if it doesn't work maybe I will move on to the hot glue b/c I wanted the look without sand b/c I am doing the rose petals around the candle inside the hurricane and outside too. Thanks again to all for the great suggestions!!
