CANDY BUFFET / coupons

So I decided to do a candy buffet as favors in addition to our charitable donation. Can anyone give me some pointers?

I've already begun clipping $1.00 off coupons - EASTER candy is here now!

Where can I get apothecary jars for cheap? Should they be all different heights?
Do you put the favor bag at everyone's place setting so they know to fill it later?
Do you put a label/tag on the bag?

If anyone has done this or has been to a wedding with a candy buffet, can you tell me what you liked/didn't like?

ETA: THINKING THIS IS GOING TO BE WAAAAYY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN REGULAR FAVORS!!! THOUGHTS???

Thanks!!!!!!! I heart you girls!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I would get different size/shape jars at like michaels or Ac moore. you can aclip michaels and ac moore coupons from the paper each week and slowly get 50% off each jar. I wuold put a sign on the table, someone has put it up the other day. And then put the bags on the table for people to take.

you also need serving spoon things... someone must know where you can get them,

You should search candy buffet and see what other posts say!!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I am doing a candy buffet! I got about 50 pounds of candy after Valentine's day for so cheap. I have about 50 more pounds to buy though. I figured 100 pounds would be good for about 200 guests. I might go buy from BJ's or bulkfoods.com.

I bought jars at Michaels and used coupons and did good.

You can get plastic serving spoons at the container store for cheap.

I bought pint-size chinese containers at papermart.com for $.09 a piece. They came in with no problems.

I am going to put a circle label on each box that says something like, 'how sweet it is to be loved by you.' with our names and wedding date. I might also put a framed sign on the table saying something like this that I got from another bride: Grab a box, fill it up! Enjoy and remember, LOVE IS SWEET!!!

Happy candy shopping! It's so hard not to just dig in and eat it!!!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I found a GREAT scoop website:

scoops

I GOOGLED 'wedding candy buffet' and found a whole bunch of ideas - pictures and advice. It seems that in order to create a successful candy buffet, you need plan for how it looks first, pick like 7-10 kinds of candy in your theme (color, retro, season, etc) and then make sure you vary the heights of the jars.

GOSH! I could spend HOURS planning this dang candy buffet...

Oh wait, I have!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

Also ask your RH, I know some will set it up and use their bowls and other jar type items for free or small fee if you bring the candy.

If not, Michaels is a good spot to find them.

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I did a candy buffet. I actually used jars that I bought from a fellow LIW bride. They were all different shapes and sizes. I just used the clear cellophane (sp?) bags That were place near the candy. I didn't bother to get scoops because all the candy was individually wrapped so it was easier to for people to grab with their hands.

TIP: DO NOT go crazy with buying a lot of candy. I have SO much candy left over it's rediculous.

FYI: I still have the jars for sale if anyone is interested. You can take a look in my album.

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I got those same scoops at Oriental Trading. They're a little smallish, but I guess OK. Also got the jars at the Christmas Shoppe at Tangers.

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

Hi, I did a candy buffet (pic in my album). I got the jars at AC Moore; I bought one or two at a time w/coupons and they were on sale about every other week, I never paid more than $5 for one. I got the scoops at Michael's on their wedding aisle. They were really cute w/hearts on the handles. Definately buy some candy now, but if you are using chocolate be careful of it melting between now and your wedding. I got all my candy at Target...
Good luck!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

Now I'm rethinking the candy buffet thing - we thought we were going to be able to cut favor costs with the buffet, but it's seeming like it's more expensive.

Any thoughts? Anyone considering the buffet but then priced it out and decided not to???

Thanks!!!!!!

Re: CANDY BUFFET / coupons

I think when all is purchased, in the end, I will be spending about $300 - $350 for about 220 guests maybe.
