can't find 'the place'

Original post by E-n-K

I'm starting to get sooo down. Every place we look at has at least one thing about it that I don't like at all. I feel like we'll never find the perfect place.:(

I totally agree with the carpet. I was hell bent on getting married in a place with all hard wood floors. Trouble is, most of those places are the higher end, more expensive places. You should try The Deseversky Center, The Bourne Mansion, or the Old Field CLub. The Old Field Club was beautiful, but I was hung up about there being just one women's bathroom that the bride and the guests had to share. I know someone who had a wedding there and said that it was so great and they didn't even think about the bathroom situation as a negative. (To each his own.) You really have to check these places out yourself. I'm getting married at the Bourne Mansion and after i saw it, I could just see myself dancing in that ballroom and I knew it was the place. I'm sure you'll get that feeling with a place too. Good Luck.

I love the Old Field...went to a great wedding there.

How expensive is the bourne mansion and deseversky center? Hard wood floor sounds good to me. Im having about 150 people and I don't want to spend much more than 120-130pp. I know most people dont notice the carpet, but if it bothers me now, I don't want the chance of being bothered by it on my wedding day ya know?

I know that Lessing's has Bourne's pricing on their website:

Bourne Mansion

Also check out Lessing's Coindre Hall and Vanderbilt Mansion, those may not have carpeting either. Good luck!!

I just FM you. But just a heads up that the day of your wedding, you nor your guests are going to be interested in the carpet. I know we look into all the little details before hand but people aren't going to be saying how ugly the carpet is

Dont worry! You'll find it and know it's the one. It's just a feeling you get.

Re: can't find 'the place'

I know people say they don't even notice the carpet when they're at a wedding but I do. I'm also a little nerotic, but whatever. I'm just not into these paisley patterns or wierd color combos you see in some of these carpets.

I went to a wedding last weekend and I have to admit that while I did notice the carpet, I also noticed that it isn't really something that stands out when everyone is at the reception. When you go to look at a hall for the first time, all of the chairs are neatly tucked under the tables or they show you the room without the chairs and tables and all you see is a sea of carpet. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you're already turned off by having carpet. Yet, at the reception, when everyone is sitting in their chairs or standing around with the chairs pulled out, or on the dance floor, the carpet just blends into the background and I can see how other people say it just not something they really notice. My advice is to not rule out a place just because of the carpet. I mean, I went to a wedding at Oheka castle and it was one of the most breathtaking places to have a wedding and it was the most elegant wedding I had ever been to, yet they have carpet in the main ballroom. (I took notice.) I think it's very hard to love every single thing about a place. For those that do, more power to them, but don't expect that you have to have that in order for it to be 'the place.' I fell in love with my place, yet I'm not crazy about there only be two small bathrooms. I think your bound to be let down if you go into a place expecting that everything about it has to be perfect in order for it to be 'the one.' Plus, I think that people like you and I who don't like carpet are the minority so even if you don't care for it, I'm sure most of your guests wouldn't care either way. Good luck.
