Can't seem to find a hall I love

Original post by KandR419

First off, I wanted to say Hey to everyone, since this is my first post on here

I'm having a hard time finding a place that i really love. It seems like the places that are in our budget, I'm not crazy about, or the places I love, are waaay too much. We're thinking about 120 people, and both of us are flexible with the date. I'm trying to find something around $60-70 pp. Thanks so much!!

Try Majestic Gardens. We were looking for about the same price range and with an afternoon wedding and buffet dinner we were able to work something out......and they have beautiful gardens in the back.

Try Carlton on the Sound

Try the Riviera in Massapequa!

They are reasonable and the centerpieces and cake are included in the price. The room is absolutely beautiful.........fireplaces, and windows overlooking the Great South Bay. The mahogany bar is so nice, supposedly, it came from an old hotel in Manhattan. The bridal room is great, it's upstairs and has a balcony to the outside and also a balcony overlooking the reception room (where you throw your bouquet). The people who work there are AMAZING, everyone is so nice and accomodating.

For me, they gave me a chocolate fountain without me even asking for one. I don't think they do that now, but it goes to show you how nice they are.

If you are getting married in nice weather, (but this is peak and you will pay extra) you can have an outdoor cocktail hour on the water. It has beautiful views.

Anyway, I love this place, I can go on and on.

For some pictures, check out my album.

Good luck!

I am not sure about 'where' and 'style' you are looking for and who you checked so far. Water, Nassau, Suffolk?

So, my recommendation is the George Washington Manor. It cater to your size wedding. They have a private garden and it's by the water in Roslyn. It's more on the 'colonial' style. This is my hall.

Try Larkfield Manor in East Northport, they have had good reviews on this site and are quite reasonable.

I looked at over 20 venues before I found my venue. Don't feel discouraged.

I think some of these might be in your budget (especially if you are flexible with the date)-- Milleridge Cottage, George Washington Manor, Swan Club, Fox Hollow, Chateau Briand, Jericho Terrace..

The Lessing's catering halls always advertise a $59.00 pp special. I am not sure what day or time that would be, but most of their halls are affordable. Try changing your reception to the afternoon, it makes a HUGE difference in price.

I was in the same boat as you when we first started looking...I loved the NY Botanical Garden, Tavern on the Green, Water's Edge etc...they were all waaaay out of our budget, and so we decided to start looking at the 'LI Halls'... the first one we saw was the Westbury Manor...I liked it, it was very homey and it did not have that catering hall feel at all...I wasnt entirely crazy about the room we booked, but whatever its nice and so we decided to book it and just get it over with...

You can also check out this thread from the 07 brides. People are listing rates that they have been quoted:

It's a good starting point at least.

So far we've looked at The Metropolitan (loved it, but just SLIGHTLY more than we wanted to spend), Crest Hollow C.C, Chateau la Mer (we really liked this, but I feel like the room might be too big for just 120), and Harbor Club (loved it, too much $). I'm going to look at Riviera on Sat. also. I feel like I'm checking out websites, and not seeing anything i love. I would like to do November. My mother and FI are saying to consider January, but the possibility of cancellations due to bad weather scares me!! I probably sound like I'm being a pain in the ***, but I swear I'm trying not to be!! LOL

I was going to recommend The Riviera. My friend got married there. I'm getting married at The Crescent, which has always been my dream place, but The Riviera or Lombardi's on the Sound would have been my 2nd and 3rd choices. Good luck! (p.s. - I'm a November bride, too! I bet you'll love the Riviera!)

I too had a budget and looked at 14 places before I found THE ONE!! I chose a sunday wedding as the cost was less expesnive than a saturday. (ofcourse) I received similar quotes from Jericho terrace, Westbury Manor, Crest Hollow, Chateau Briand, Riviera, Chateau La Mer, Fox Hollow. So definitely check those out. If you need specifics about price or want my opinion, FM me.

first off, welcome to the addiction!!!! it's a great resource for everything from what colors should i use to omg i hate my fmil!! haha... and everyone is very helpful and sweet on here!

secondly, i totally understand where you are coming from. i tried so hard to find a 'reasonbly priced' place that i loved-- i found the reasonable prices but the places were awful (in my eyes, compared to what i invisioned)... so it was really hard. what i did was change to an 'off day' which is sunday evening in order to afford my 'dream' place... to me, there are a lot of things you can sacrifice that are worth it IF by doing that you get your place b/c the place is everything...

try looking into a day affair to make it less money or maybe even a thursday evening-- those are becoming more common and they are very VERY reasonable. try off-months and maybe even cutting off some of the food that you feel is not needed... work with them, say you are willing to sacrifice a lot if they are willing to work with you so that you can have your wedding at a beautiful place that you LOVE!!

make a list of the ones you are over and then go IN PERSON with FH to each one so they know you are serious-- speak to them and hopefully they can help you. you'd be surprised what can be done at the more $$ places to bring a price down.

HTH, good luck and WELCOME!!!!!!
