Cant use 'Here Comes the Bride'????

So, I live in Westchester, and I am getting married in a Catholic church. I went to select my music for my mass, on Sunday. The music director told me that the Archdiocese will no longer let them use 'Here Comes the Bride' because it comes from a pagan opera (or something like that) where the bride and groom kill themselves. So, I cant use it...***????? Apparently, my aunt, who is Luthern and a Deacon has heard about this too..it sucks!!

Its BS!!! I cant believe it.....even the music director was like, ' I think they have bigger issues to deal with (the catholic church)...but they wont allow it, so I had to pick something else, which just sounds stupid to me.

I don't think it's 'Here Comes the Bride' that's from the opera...I thought it was the 'Wedding March'??? My pastor told me about this when we first met with him. I'm going to look it up.

Here's what I found....

'HERE COMES THE BRIDE,' Richard Wagner--1848

The 'Bridal Chorus,' played at almost all traditional weddings as the happy couple marches to the altar, is sung in quite a different setting in Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin. In this opera, the chorus starts singing as the hero, Lohengrin, accompanied by his new wife, Elsa, enters the bridal chamber, which is dominated by a very large bed. Their attendants then help them disrobe for their wedding night. Because of this sexually oriented scene, some religious sects have objected to using the 'Bridal Chorus' as a wedding march.

Guess that is the reason.......but really who the hell even knows that...people have been using it for years.

Yes, apparently the composer is a well-known anti-semite.

I live in Westchester..different diocese...guess they are bigger A-HOLES in Westchester.

Really, I was raised Catholic and always involved in the church growing up...but this the kind of thing that pisses me off about the Catholic chruch.

that's not exactly how it goes...

wagner was known for being extremely anti-semetic, and it's actually been shown that hitler played his music throughout concentration camps. it's not jews hating all that is german. as a grandaughter of holocaust survivors, i don't think it's too much to ask to not want to be reminded of the holocaust on special occasions.

i'm not trying to offend anyone i was saying that's what i heard (and apparently it was incorrect) - i'm marrying a jew it's not like i'm anti semetic
