The caterer just informed us that they do 'captain's seating' - guests give their names and are seated at the correct table. Has anyone ever been to a wedding with this? Any thoughts? I guess I could do placecards - I've never experienced 'captain's seating'.

I saw that on bridezillas (regina at oheka) fh and I were trying to figure out what that was - it looked sloppy.

i went to a wedding saturday night when they did this it was a little confusing. it wasnt bad though. there is usually a mob at the placecard table anyway. but i was looking for one before the ch was over.

I am having trouble imagining them having enough staff to be escorting all the guests after the CH... I'm not sure how I feel about this idea...

Yeah I agree it sounds like it could get very confusing and over whelming for the staff having all of the guest charging at them all at once.

My hall does that as well. I think it's kind of cool, but I'm having a small wedding @ 125 people, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Re: captain's seating vs. placecards
I went to a wedding with captain's seating and it worked out fine. If you still want placecards, you could always have your reception hall hand over the placecard to each guest as they tell them which table they are seated at. You could also create a placecard display and have the reception hall hand over the placecards to each guest as they tell them their table number. I think you could easily have it both ways.
