I was just talking to FH about this. When we get married we are still going to keep our own seperate car insurance policies and companies. Is anyone going to change theirs to FH's or is he changing to yours?

Re: Car insurance
FH is under his parents so he will have to go under mine since I have been established and he has never had his own so him being on his own will be too much money

Re: Car insurance
It's a good idea to combine your policy. As a married couple you'll get a better rate. Like Rita said, use the policy that has the most time on it, and the one with the least amount of activity. Married couples are less of an insurance risk than single people.
You'll also get a multi-car discount. And if you roll your homeowners and umbrella policy under your auto policy well, there's a discount for that too.
I know I sound like a commercial, but I work in insurance :)

Re: Car insurance
Ok so I have the least activity on mine and Jerry has the most time. Jerry already has the 2 houses under his policy also. Should I go under his?. Does it make a difference that i am only driving 5 years where he is 25+? I was afraid if I go under his poilcy it would make his go up. I am so confused now

Agreed. I have a life insurance policy - rolled into my car insurance and get a multiline discount

Re: Car insurance
Hi- I actually work for an insurance company and i would definitely put both of you on the same policy - you will get a married rate & multi car discount for putting both your cars together. You should go with whichever one you has been with their companies the longest and cancel out the other. :) Good luck!

Re: Car insurance
We are actually under his right now. In September we bought a new car for me, since my car at the time was at the shop every other day.
Prior my car was under my own policy, but when we figured everything out it was just much cheaper and made more sense to go under his policy. We were planning to do this anyways when we were married too.
Financially, it's best the way to go for couples to be under the same policy.

Go under his. 5 years without activity in your age bracket is actually a decent amount of time. You're only considered a 'new' driver for about two years.
Have them quote it, but as a married couple with two cars on one policy and the home, etc. You both should see a savings.

Joanne- Thank you so much. I think we are going to do that. It really makes sense doing together.
