Car Mirror?

Car Mirror?

Do you have them in your cars?

I want to get one but then I heard they are a safety hazard if there is an accident and the glass breaks off...

What do you all think, I want to be able to see my baby!

P.S. Where do you mount them?

TIA!

I had them...but not real glass. It is safetly glass, like plastic almost.
Mine was mounted to our headrest, full secure. It was not going anyplace.

Re: Car Mirror?

I had one that went on my rear view mirror - but that was when he faced forward - so I guess thats really no help at all.

Did you have anything when he was rear facing?

I think its not worth the risk to install a mirror in front of the baby on the back seat. Think about it -- you are so worried that your child is safe at all times that you are willing to risk your babies safety? Doesn't make much sense -- you are giving yourself false comfort.

Mine were ONLY for rear-facing babies. They go around the headrest but you need the kind of headrest that can go up and down. In my Civix I could not use one. It has a clip that goes under the headrest and then snaps closed.

Ya know, I don't think I did.

So Calla, you are saying not to have the mirror in the car at all?

Re: Car Mirror?

Yes, that is what I would suggest, but of course the decision is up to you. Mirrors like that are for mommy's worry, and not for baby's good at all -- its something that could come loose and cause injury in an accident without really doing good otherwise. Unlike the mirrors for once the baby is front facing, the ones for rear facing seats are positioned directly in front of your babies head!

Ok, I am not going to get it! That is what I read, I am such a safety freak..

I guess I will just pull over if I have to check on the baby!

Any other solutions?

Re: Car Mirror?

We have a Fisher Price one, can't find it online but this is almost the same.

Car Mirror

Necessary? I guess not but I like to see if he is sleeping or awake, etc...

The 'mirror' is actually plastic encased in a soft frame, it gets tethered to the back seat head rest. I can't see any possible way for it to come loose or break. For me, the only danger I can see is not keeping my eyes on the road!

ETA: I just came in from the car, it is not a flexible plastic as I said before but I still think its safe.

I have the same one and there is no way it will come off or anything like that. We have them in both cars and it gave me piece of mind, especially when she was a small infant and I was totally paranoid about her breathing, etc.
