Car or stereo people, what do you think of this crap?
I have a Bose audio system in my SUV. The CD changer was on the fritz, so the dealership is giving me a new one. But, the guy said that this changer is an Alpine. Now, I REALLY thought that my changer was a Bose changer. I still have the 'new car' sticker that came with my SUV and it says that I have a Bose audio system.
Are Bose and Alpine the same company now?

Alpine is now where near the quailty of a Bose product. If you had a Bose changer they should replace it with a Bose

Sue.... Bose makes sound systems(speakers). I'm pretty sure they don't make car radios or cd changers. I don't know what make vehicle you have, but i know GM uses Bose speakers in their cars, and they use their own brand of radio(My dad's friend owns Bast Chevrolet), and Ford uses JBL speakers with their own brand of radio. Good luck.

It is possible that they used an Alpine CD changer. I dont believe Bose makes Cd Changers....If they are going to give you the Alpine CD changer, I would take it..>Alpine makes good stuff Scott

When the car maker contracts with a company to do an OEM audio system, the car manufacturer is the main decision maker on how the system is marketed. If they decide to go with BOSE for speakers they will normally badge the radio with the same brand name even if it is manufactured by another company. The BOSE system is an upgrade that helps to sell more cars. It would be weird if they used both BOSE and Alpine's name in their marketing campaign for the car.

To answer your second question BOSE and Alpine are not the same company. There is no real connection.
Alpine makes really good car radios and changers.

My car has a bose cd-player and speakers. It's an infiniti. I think you should be getting the exact same CD player from the dealership if they need to replace it. I would not accept an alternate.

Bose usually does not manufacture car audio equipment themselves.
They just use the name and they have a known stereo company like alpine or blankput manufacture the stuff and they just stick the bose name on there.
All the Dodge's and Chryslers all use 'Infinity' badged stereo. Well guess what... your radios are most likely Alpine.
The Bose system I have in my Audi TT... the radio I have is a Blankput.
As far as CD changers go... yeah those are usually made by Alpine.
But when you get the new unit... it will look identically like your old one. It will probably even say BOSE on the front. But if they ever show you your old busted one... take a look at the back of it and look by the serial number... it will say Alpine most likely.

I'm not 100% sure about Bose but I know for a fact that Infinity and JBL have the resources to build very good car radios. They are part of Harman International who owns over 20 audio companies worldwide.
If the decision is made to use an Alpine or another manufacturer's head unit in a specific car's platform with BOSE, JBL or Infinity speakers, this is determined by the car manufacturer. Many times this decision is dependent on who puts in the lowest bid or on a pre-existent relationship with a specific company.
I work in audio, specifically car audio. I know quite a bit about this stuff.
