Care to share anything UN-TRADITIONAL?

Care to share anything UN-TRADITIONAL?

I have a man of honor (my best friend) instead of a maid or matron of honor.

I've caught a little flack for it, for being un-traditional, but I fell I made the best possible decision.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

oh fantastic!

How is that going for you? How do you plan the day will go as far as getting ready, ect. Will your man of honor stay with you and your bridal party the day of the ceremony, or will he be with the groomsmen?

I still have to work out all the logistics!

I had my three guy best friends on my side of the wedding party. I wouldn't have had it any other way and they were honored!

Hmm, we haven't worked that out but I think I'm going to have him and his girlfriend come over to my place in the morning. Then of course when we do pics I will have my bridesmaids and my one bridesman and my man of honor. FH will take pics with his groomsmen and one groomsmaid. My people will stand by my side at the church regardless of gender, same with FH.

FH had a best woman. I'm not taking his last name. I didn't wear a veil. No garter/Boq toss. No introductions....

Yea we did alot of things un- traditionally!

I had/am having 2 separate wedding... one for FH side of the family and one for mine! I guess you can say that's un-traditional!

Re: Care to share anything UN-TRADITIONAL?

pretty much the whole wedding was 'not the norm'

-my 2 bros were my 'bridesmaids' (bro's wife was MOH)
-we greeted guests as they arrived before our ceremony & had food and drinks available at the time...then about 40 minutes later announced the ceremony would start to the theme from the show 'Survivor'
-no tuxes for BP, told guests to come 'elegant beach casual'
-DH's sister got ordained to marry us
-no garter/bq toss
-no flower CPS...beach themes in vases that i DIY
-no intros of BP or us
-no toasts
-combined father/bride mother/groom dances into one song at same time
-had a clam bake with lobsters, muscles, clams & other assorted food
-no assigned seating...sit where you want!
-no limo...my Dad drove me in his red Ford Explorer
-our first dance was to 3 different songs mixed...we started out with the old sway side to side to My Wish by Racal Flatts, then went into a rumba to Something Stupid from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.. and ended with a cha-cha/west coast swing to Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins. For the start of HonyTonk i went up from behind and slapped DH on his butt...forgot to mention DH added a cowboy hat & jacket for the last song
-no day after brunch...i was taking the SCPD test at 9am instead
-keeping my name

ETA: it wasn't at a typical wedding place!

no veil

no garter toss/bo-k toss

greeting guests at cocktail hour instead of after church

no cake--plated desserts instead (that one
shocked the hell out of the catering hall ahhaha)

no video

oldies group singing at our cocktail hour

My whole wedding was non-traditional. I loved it!

Pennants instead of ribbon wands outside of church.

Since my father passed away, I'll be dancing with my FFIL while FH will dance with my mom.

My two brothers-in-law will be walking me down the aisle (they each take half of the way).

Basically, my entire INSANE wedding theme!

Re: Care to share anything UN-TRADITIONAL?

We are doing a family unity ceremony as opposed to a unity candle or sand ceremony. We are each going to dance with DD instead of parent anniversary dance, and I might move parent dances to after our first dance. Seeing FH before the ceremony (but still kicking him out the night before) I know we plan on seeing as many people as possible at CH (even added 1/2 hr) so NO table hopping at reception, just dancing. If I can't get someone engaged at my wedding (I don't know why but I really want this to happen) I think I might take 2-4 flowers out of my bo-k and hand each single girl in my family one. Might sneak my sis 2! OK OK I'm done now!
