I have narrowed down my choices to these 2. Anyone have any comments about either positive or negative. Thanks

I personally prefer the Carltun- I did not look at GC Hotel cause one of my BM's got married there. but I was a wedding guest there... I would lean towards that if you had your heart set on a hotel- but I think that the Carltun is prettier.. I am not sure the GC Hotel lives up to it's rep- although I have not seen it since the ballroom has been renovated. It was a great affair-- but my decor taste is more the Carltun-- but you cannot go wrong with either-- it is just personal preference.

I think the Carltun is better they have a great area to take pictures so you dont have to leave or anything and you can have the ceramony outside in the gardens where as the garden city hotel does not provide that I don't think.

My brother got married at the GCH. --It was beautiful. I haven't been to a wedding at Carltun on the Park, but I've heard nothing but great things about it!

Bouth are really nice, I would pick the Carltun over GCH because of the beautiful grounds. Perfect for pictures!

If those were my 2 choices, I would pick the Garden City Hotel hands down. It is the only 5 star hotel on LI, so elegant and beautiful!

I've gone to 3 black tie parties at the Garden City Hotel (my cousins bar/bat mitzvahs) and I wouldn't even consider having my wedding there. No, not b/c there have already been family parties there, but b/c I really didn't care for it. The last one was last November. The food was cold when it came out, and not good at all. They told my aunt that they could fit her 250 guests for the party no problem. Well, yes there was. the room was soooooo crowded that you couldn't walk between the tables, and you had to be uncomfortably tucked under you table to fit you and the person at the table behind you. Service was alright, but nothing to write home about. I would DEF choose the Carltun- beautiful place.
I do not know much about the Garden City Hotel, but I would go for The Carltun. It is so beautiful and has great food.

I agree. I checked out both places. Carltun almost feels like an old mansion (in a good way), which we really liked. They also have beautiful grounds. GCH was nice, but it was a little more ornate than we wanted. There's a lot of gold and glitz. It just depends on what look you prefer and if you care about having an outdoor area to take pics.

I've never been to an affair at the GCH, but my cousin's reception was at Carltun and we also had our rehearsal dinner there. Fabulous place!!!
I checked out GCH and I thought it was a lot of hoopla. They have no grounds to really take pictures or get married outside. I also thought it was a lot of money for what it was. I also went to a party at the Carltun. I thought it was really pretty. I wasn't that impressed with the food (it came out cold). But I would prefer it to GCH.

I met with the Garden City Hotel- Joseph Borbely. I was really turned off. I was even getting a discount b/c of various connections. But his attitude was as if I should be honored he was allowing me to get married there. For the same date I got a $50pp lower rate at The Harbor Club. I'm having a day wedding, the harbor club is on the water is looks so pretty with all the boats in the water.
IMO- I was really turned off by the Garden City Hotel

Just to play devil's advocate, one of the advantages that GCH would have over Carltun is that everyone can stay over if they want and not have to travel to a hotel. Don't know if you have any oot guests coming. And you have the grounds right at the park with the Gazebo if you want outside pics. but, that said I also think Carltun is a very elegant place.
