Carpenter Ants

Re: Carpenter Ants

The contract was close to $600.00 for a year. But they guarantee they will come for anything that shows up - excluding termites. The guy threw in a termite inspection when he did the treatment yesterday.

OMG!!!! I had three of those giant ants in my apartment. I didn't know that was what they were called. I am going to tell my landlord. I hope he gets rid of them!! I hate bugs!

Wow I guess he wasn't that far off. And they do the automatic deduction from credit/checking every month instead of lump sum payment.

I had them, too, they’re disgusting but they’re not worse than termites which are harder to get rid of. We used Arrow and we also paid $600. Unlimited callbacks for a year and I believe it’s renewable for $150 for the next year.

Dani - it must be a hi-ranch thing, LOL! We have them too. Actually, they've disappeared as of late, but now I wonder where they are hiding? We had our whole house exterminated before moving in just to be sure, but every so often I see one making it's way across our living room!!! I think it's because we're doing a lot of construction (hah, no pun intended!).

I think I will have the exterminator come. The only thing I worry about is the fact that we have a wooded area in back of us and across the street where there are cute little brown bunnies living. I wouldn't want them being affected.

Once a year we get infested with those flying ants. They last for about 2 weeks. We call and exterminator but there must be a nest somewhere under the floorboards or something. It skeeves me. Can't wait til we buy a house so we don't have to deal with this anymore.

Ladies, be forewarned - do not pay an exterminator to treat for carpentar ants unless you are absolutely sure they are carpentar ants. I was convinced that the swarm we had were carpentars, but when I called THREE exterminators for estimates, 2 out of the three guys said they were NOT carpenters, but citronella ants (they have wings, too or they can be small w/o wings). The are not harmful to your house, and mostly live outside - they just come in if they find a crack.

I called Arrow, and they guy was very honest and said, listen, I'd love to take your money, but there's no treatment required. Just seal up the cracks and you should have no problem.

Definatly call an exterminator. (I suggest Orkin)They have special materials (chemicals) they use to get rid of carpentar ants. My dad is the Orkin man.

If you need an exterminator definatly contact Orkin.

Here is the link to orkin, which provides you with the phone number, educational information about different buggies and how Orkin treats them and how you can treat them later on.
