I know alot about Carribean food. What kind of things were you thinking about? What hall are you using?

Re: Carribean Reception Food
Hello, we're using Patchogue Manor, and the chef is willing to make whatever we want! I don't know a lot about Carribean food, but I was thinking of using it mostly in the cocktail hour if that helps. FI wants to have a pretty general dinner though. but i think we should incorporate something for the sit-down dinner as well.

Re: Carribean Reception Food
My MOH did this at her wedding last year. Her husband in Jamaican. She got married at the Riviera in Massapequa. They didn't have a way to accomodate her by making the food themselves but they allowed them to bring in food from an outside vendor. If your hall can't make the food for you, maybe you can bring it in from somewhere else. Her one year anniversary is today and to this day, all anyone ever talks about were the Jamaican beef paties at the cocktail hour. They were a huge hit. BTW - she had the DJ play calypso music during the cocktail hour to give it a Caribbean feel. It was fantastic!!!

Another great suggestion is to have steel drum players during the CH. I would do this especially since I am having the wedding the day before Labor Day but FH hates the sound.

Re: Carribean Reception Food
My family is from Trinidad - my FI's family is from the Dominican Republic. Here are some of the Caribbean things that we are doing:
-We are going to have our DJ play merengue/salsa/soca/calypso during the cocktail hour and reception
-We are going to have flan and current rolls for dessert as well as a Dominican cake with guava filling
-We are going to work with WM to have some more Caribbean type food during cocktail hour such as coconut shrimp. Caribbean food tends to be spicy so this is a hard one - I am still thinking through dishes that everyone can enjoy.
