Carried Away...

Carried Away...

Have you ever stopped in the middle of ALL of this planning and just said... 'WHOA! This is SOOO not what I thought I was going to do...'

Let me give you an idea of what I am talking about here...

When Rob and I first decided to get married, we figured we would skip down to Town Hall and have them hitch us up. Done. Married. The End.

That idea lasted a night. Then I said 'My sisters would REALLY will kill me if we don't invite them' and he said 'Yeah, my mom and Dad would not be happy if we didn't ask them to be there'. So we say.. 'Okay we will have a few friends and family and go out to supper afterwards...' But by the time we got finished writing up the MUST HAVE THERE list... well it was too much for a simple dinner. So I have a brainstorm. Let's do a wedding..

Let's pause for a minute and allow me to introduce myself. I am the girl who really never thought much about weddings in general. I never wanted one. I never bought BRIDE magazine. I never dreamed of wearing a big white dress. I never DIDN'T want one... I just didn't think of it at all.

So back to the planning. Here is what our original plan looked like:

I would wear a simple cream or white outfit or dress. Maybe a flower in my hair.
Rob would wear a nice shirt and pants.
We would put a tent in the backyard of my childhood home and have a big barbecue.
We set the date for 9/23/2006... 2 months from when we decided to do it. We would have a radio, I would make a cake and we would get some alchohol and TA DA! INSTANT WEDDING!

Within a space of 3 weeks (and without going through the various and sundry ways the idea morphed in that short time) we are now here:

We can't get married this September because my GOWN won't be ready.
Rob is wearing a tux and so are our kids.
We went from a simple frame and pole tent to
THIS and our BBQ has evolved into a a $140 a plate sit down affair with a full wait staff and cocktail hour. OH.. and maybe I ought to mention that the Radio has been replaced by a DJ. And now there are favors and ARGHH!

I can't believe how FAR off the track I have come from my original ideas! Anyone else have this happen or is it just me?

Re: Carried Away...

I've actually had the exact opposite problem...haha...I orginally planned on a big lavish affair with everyone I have ever met in my life there to witness it, and then it happened. The reality of my dad not having a money tree to shake in the backyard set in! LOL...so I've had to tone it down a bit, but it will still be perfect!

Re: Carried Away...

i completely empathize! I told FH I didn't want a wedding and we were originally gonna have just dinner at a nice restaurant for our close friends and family.

Then FH decided he really wants a wedding 'cus his mother would love that. Her first born son and all...

So now I'm stuck doing everything 'cus FH is working such long hours at his new job and I have too much time on my hands at work. :P

You gotta admit though, it's a bit fun doing some of the wedding planning.

Admit it!!!

haha, that sounds like my engagement party. FH and I got back from vacation engaged... all we wanted was to pop open a bottle of champagne with the ones we loved.... turned into a catered affair with a wait staff!!! Thousand dollars, 75 people and about 6 months later, we had our party (although, I dont think I got my champagne, come to think of it!!)

I admit it! It is - in fact - TOO much fun! That's how I have gotten myself INTO all this trouble. And LIW is no help! I didn't even THINK about flower cones or programs or menus or slipper baskets or bathroom baskets or half the crazy stuff that I suddenly find that I MUST HAVE!
