Case of the Ex.... should I, should I not? Long...

Case of the Ex.... should I, should I not? Long...

So my Ex of 5 years and I did not really end off on a good note. My DH basically 'stole' me from him. Anyway, after we broke up he kept calling, emailing, stopping by, and wanting to be 'friends'. Sooner than later I would always find out that he wanted to be more than friends and of course felt betrayed and angry with him. Eventually, DH and I got sick of his games and DH flat out said that obviously I could not even have a casual friendship with this guy because he just did not get that I wanted nothing more to do with him.

So I started to tell him that we should probably wait several months before trying to start up a friendship, to not call me so much, etc etc. I tried to be NICE. He never respected my wishes and that got really frustrating. So apparently I was too nice.

I am not the type of person that can be mean very easily...but my way wasn't working to get the point across to him so DH insisted that I do it 'his' way.... which was basically to get angry and tell him to Fook Off, in no uncertain terms.

Well, I did it, my ex laughed at me and said 'I don't know what's gotten into you but I'll call you in like a month when your not so cranky!' Turns out he never called again though. Mission accomplished.

Anyway, I was never happy with the way things ended off, with me having to say that to him. It's not really me to be that way and admittedly, I did it mostly for DH because he was fed up with his behavior already. I spent 5 yrs of my life with that guy and I thought our relationship deserved to end off on a more amicable note.

Okay, let me get to the point. I've discussed the possibility of approaching my Ex once final time, via E-mail just to kind of end things differently. I feel guilty about ending things the way I did. So, yes, it's mostly just selfish -- to make MYSELF feel better...but I don't think it's too much to ask. So anyway, now that DH and I are married almost 3 months, my Ex is engaged and set to marry in June, I thought now might be a good time to send off a brief email basically wishing him a good life, the end.

Should I write him? Or just drop it? DH of course is concerned that any contact with him will kick up the drama again. He would probably prefer me to put it off longer.... like til forever...Do you think so? I think maybe he's grown up by now... I don't need or even want a reply. I just want to sorta clear my conscience.

speaking from experience when things ended badly with me ex of 3 years i needed closure and piece of mind for my self so i could truly feel free, if this bothers u all this time..yrs later.. i think maybe u should do it, so u can finally have some sort of closure and peace with the situation

I would just forget about it. You are married and pregnant--both of your new lives should be closure enough--emailing might just open old wounds, or old feelings, and probably no good could come of it...You could write him a letter and not send it--sometimes even getting words out makes me feel better.

I think you should move on...you contacting him will just open doors again..IMO

Good luck!

I think that even if you DO need the closure, this isn't the best timing. If you send an email now, a few months before your ex's wedding, it may stir up old memories, feelings, whatever, and that's simply not fair to him or his fiance during this time leading up to the wedding. If anything, I would hold off until a few months after they are married, but even then, I would let it go...

I understand the needing closure part, but it also can restart all the feelings again , not on your side but his. Sometimes No contact makes a person stronger and not knowing all about that persons life makes it easier to move on and obviously he was not over you when it ended but has since moved on and is engaged so him not calling you in a month like he said may be his way of moving on with his life, it may be too hard to hear how happy you are and that you are having a baby. Maybe oneday years from now it can happen but I personally think it may not be such a great idea. I mean it is really hard to be friends with someone you were in a relationship for 5 years with there may be too much history there and you also have to consider he has a fiance now and she may be very uncomfortable with the whole thing also. Maybe in time but for now I would just leave it as is.

leave it alone....the Ex will take it as you being more than just trying to end it nicely and if you do it without telling DH, he might feel betrayed.

it's over, done with...and it ended the way it did for a reason....EVERYTHING happens for a reason.

I agree, i would just let it go. If you contact him he'll just think it's an invitation to start pestering you again, or worse, he mgith think that you're jealous that he's getting married!

Besides the fact that he didn't respect your wishes when you asked him to cool it last time and he wasn't very nice about it. I see no reason to contact him again.

would you be telling your DH about contacting ex? I would also consider the feelings of ex's fiance. I would not like it if 5 months before I marry FH ex comes back into the picture. This is a complete 4 party situation, all parties should be considered.

Drop it. Move on. You're married, pregnant and an adult. The only reason you'd be contacting him is to make yourself feel better and that's a little silly, a little selfish, and totally unneccessary especially since you're happily married and expecting!

If DH was getting the same kinds of calls from an EX, how would you feel?

hey girl, i reiterate everything that everyone has said, just let it go. it seems that both of you are in better places in your lives so that should be enough. the past is the past, move forward.

I would just leave it alone. You tried to be nice, but he kept overstepping the boundaries. If your marriage didn't change that, what makes you think his engagement will?

I agree do not contact him! my ex when I met Dh he would call me and he would want to talk to me after months that we broke up he would say why didn't i call him anymore and i would be like because i broke up with you and i dont want anything to do with you he use to put me down verbally abuse me and i was not going to put up with his crap anymore! so after that he would still cal and i told him what thef*** do you want i dont want to talk to you anymore stop calling me and i would tell him and say my boyfriend doesn't want you calling me and get on with your life already and i never heard from him since and i am so glad i have the best thing right now my Dh. so I know you kinda feel bad on how you left it off i know how you feel but it was what you had to do a that time to make him stop. congrats on your baby i wish you and dh the best. good luck!
