Cash or check anyone?

Original post by FutureMissG

So Ladies, I know we would probably all prefer cash or checks as gifts for the wedding. IS there a 'politically correct' way of asking for cash only? It may be a bit ridiculous but I want to be honest with my guest, I'm trying to purchase a house!

No. There's no tactful way to do this. Gifts are gifts and no one's obligated to give you anything at all, so they can give you whatever they choose.

ita dont mention it anyway its just tacky

Re: Cash or check anyone?

I found these cute poems online,

POEM 1

Many of our guests have enquired
For a gift idea to be inspired
We have enough dishes and towels for two
So we have a favour to ask of you.
A wishing well we thought would be great
(But only if you wish to participate)
A gift of money, an amount you can afford
Would be really appreciated, you can be assured
At our reception, drop your gift in the well
Then make a wish, but shhh… don’t tell!

We hope our request is okay
For this would help make our day
Then when we choose something new
We can say it was all thanks to you
And in return for your kindness, we are sure,
That you will get what you wished for.

POEM 7

Soon you will hear our wedding bell,
As Friends and family wish us well.
Our household thoughts are not brand new,
We have twice the things we need for two.
Since we have our share of dishes and bedding,
We're having instead a wishing well wedding.
But more important we ask of you,
your prayers of love and blessings too!

Ye in Russian/Jewish custom its always money too. Alot of my guests are neither but I am not going to tell anyone I rather have money. MY MOH said she will tell people for me if they ask but thats about it. We are trying to buy a house too so I feel your pain.

It is asian custom to only give money at the wedding and my FH says he's never been to a wedding where people brought gifts...I'm hoping people will just follow this for my wedding.

That being said, I won't be telling anyone to give money either. If I get a gift, so be it. It won't ruin my day.

I agree, there really is no nice way to say it...unless it's family and you're just blunt with eachother.

Our bridal party and parents are going to spread the word that we want money. I don't think I will display it anywhere.

I also think it's common pratice now that peolpe give money (cash/checks) as wedding gifts (day of). Typically the registered gift items are for the bridal shower.

Absolutely NO tactful way to say this..maybe you can take down your registry after the shower?

I don't think it's a major concern though, most people in this area give $$$ as a wedding gift.

That's a good idea-take down the registry after the shower. If anyone inquires about wedding gifts; just have your MOH or whoever say 'oh they got everything they needed from the shower; maybe just give them a check' I'm sure there's a better way of saying what i quoted-but you get the idea

there is no classy way to request money and not gifts without looking like trash yourselves.

i went to a wedding once where one of the guests in the envelope put a card and a $25 gift card to chili's.
the wedding was at leonard's and each plate was around $130. this person brought a guest and only left $25 smh

Notwedyet08 ITA. I never thought of taking the site down after the shower but that's a great point.
