As I am doing my monthly household bills, how much are you paying in cash for the wedding (dress, flowers, gifts etc), then living off of, and how much are you charging (dress, flowers, music, etc...)....I want to pay as much as I can in cash but just don't see that happening, knowing how much in monthly bills we have...Tell me I am not the only one!! I must be dreaming that we can afford this wedding!!!

Re: Cash or Credit
I know we cant afford it...lol...but we are doing it anyway, and we are paying ALL cash ( mainly because we only have about $1000 in available credit, if that!)

Re: Cash or Credit
We charged things on AMEX to get the points but of course that needs to be paid off monthly so we enjoyed the best of both worlds.

Re: Cash or Credit
i read a really interesting article that when u r paying for a wedding whatever u can charge you should charge (as long as u have the money to back it up of course) b/c if g-d forbid a vendor screws u over u can get the money threw the c.c. company if the vendor is unwilling to work with you.

Re: Cash or Credit
we pay everything cash. bills and wedding. We try no to use or cc unless absoulte emergency. I know its hard!! you just have to cut back on stuff.... i started clipping coupons for food shopping, not going out to eat, no more movies etc. I also lowered the plans on our cell phones, house phones, and cable. all not a huge deal and we wound up saving $$ every month.
I have charged EVERYTHING so far but I have the money to pay off the bills right away in my checking account thank goodness. I am paying for the whole wedding myself except for the reception (thanks to my dad) but FH has NO savings at all.

Re: Cash or Credit
I use coupons and rebates, etc...I did charge my dress only for 'insurance' that if something happened, well, you know....and the flowers i have done in cash, the B&B in cash, and so on, but I think I might have to charge BM gifts, etc....I even had enough frequent flyer miles for one free honeymoon plane ticket...I guess I am just nervous/scared of not having enough money for EVERYTHING...

Re: Cash or Credit
I charged all my initial deposits for the protection, but then I pay off my credit cards in full at the end of each month (I don't like carrying a balance on them).... Everything else we are paying cash... just tucking the money away until our payments are due. I don't pay anyone before they are due because I don't like paying people for services they haven't provided yet!
When we set up our budget (just before we booked our hall), I mapped out a savings plan, set up my accounts to automatically transfer a certain amt of money from each paycheck into savings and calculated how much I would have by a month prior to the wedding... and that was our budget. I subtracted my monthly bills from my paycheck and the rest went to savings. We do NOTHING and spend NO MONEY. Bring lunch to work everyday, don't go out to movies or out to eat, cook cheap dinners, etc etc... it's an austerity plan.... it's not exactly fun but my savings account has never seen numbers like this!!! Too bad I don't get to keep any of it!

Re: Cash or Credit
My entire wedding is being paid for in cash. If I have to put a deposit down on a Credit Card (i.e. hall, dress) I paid it in full the same month. I also pay all my household items in cash (mostly at least) ... we have a miniscule balance on the credit cards.

Re: Cash or Credit
I'll buy my dress with my credit card and then pay it off completely when I get the bill.(My mom is buying the dress for me but I'll pay with my credit card and she will deposit the money in my bank account) I usually pay with my credit cardfor anything if the cost is over $400 dollars so that way if there is any problems with the vendors, merchandise from any place, you can get a guarantee in terms of disputing the charges on your card. I hate bills therefore I do not keep balances on any of my credit cards. Credit card companies will make money but not with me!

Re: Cash or Credit
We are paying with mostly cash. We will be ordering the BP gifts and parents gifts with a credit card and paying it off quickly. We do not want to be stress with the paying on wedding stuff after the wedding.
