Has anyone had a wedding at one of the following locations in Westchester: Castle on the Hudson formerly Tarrytown Castle, Whitby Castle or Lyndhurst? Trying to find a venue for my reception and thinking that these places would be very romantic. But would very much like some feedback from those who have attended or had their wedding there. Very much appreciate advice on these venues or suggestions nearby.
Castle on the Hudson is beautiful. The food is amazing and if I could have afforded it my wedding would have been there!
It is romantic and the rooms are beautiful as well!

Re: castles in westchester?
You might try Tappen Hill or depending on the size the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. Both are catered by Abigail Kirsch(amazing food) and are beautiful sites. I was married at the Snuff Mill on the NYBG. It only holds 120ppl, but they also have the conservatory. I know they are not castles, but they are in your area and definately worth a look.

Re: castles in westchester?
We went to see Castle on the Hudson back when it was called The Castle at Tarrytown and honestly we were not impressed. There is nothing 'magical' or 'regal' about the place...I mean, the rooms are beautiful, the lobby is nice...but weddings take palce in the side room and it's tiny, dark and not that normally set-up (spaced out weird). Plus, for $200 a plate I felt we could have gone elsewhere and have a real grand ballroom. Plus the drive wasn't impressive either. It's nice, just not 'WOW', especially for that price.

Re: castles in westchester?
I went to see the castle on the hudson and did not like it very much. They quoted me $165 per plate for a saturday night in june. The castle is pretty but very dark. the room for the reception i very small and dark and looks kinda gothic/churchlike. The cocktail hour is in the basement. They told me the food is supposed to be great b/c they are the only 5 star restaurant in westchester, but i dont know...
my friend had his wedding at the dolce tarrytown house-- he said the place is beautiful but the service was very bad (i think they were not very nice the day of the wedding) so he told me not to go there. hope this info helps... i did not mean to be so negative this is just my opinion.

Re: castles in westchester?
Thanks for everyone's feedbacks. I originally liked Castle on the Hudson but on second thought, the room for the reception is very small even though I have a small party. There doesn't seem to be enough space for dancing. I just don't want my guest to feel uncomfortable. Another thing that brings doubt is that I don't have alot of confidence in the event coordinator. The person doesn't seem to take initiative and most places i went to were alot more re-assuring in terms of what they'll do for me that day and how my guests will be attended to. They told me to call them for the menu tasting. Is that normal or should the caterer be the one to call me to schedule a menu tasting? I'm back to square one. Has anyone been to Lyndhurst mansion also in Tarrytown?

The Castle is nice, but very overpriced and I believe they can olny fit a max of 150. Tappan Hill is nice, but more of a mansion than a castle. It's also on the pricy side, over $200 a plate and they do more than one reception at a time. I went to Dolce, but they didn't have anyone available to talk to or show me around, so I was turned off. If you are also into the mansion look I would check out The CV Rich Mansion in White Plains or Estherwood- I think in Dobbs Ferry. You should look at the Westchster section on www.weddingsitesandservices if you haven't already.

I just realized you did mention Lyndhurst so I edited my previous post to say that although I haven't been to an event there we did visit the grounds and they are beautiful!

Re: castles in westchester?
I have been to a wedding at Whitby castle and although the grounds are pretty, I wasn't overly impressed with the food. The ballroom was just ok, nothing special.

Thanks. Been to Estherwoods...it was beautiful on the outside but they don't really have 1 room that fits 100 and include dancing. Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: castles or Mansions in westchester
We also went to Whitby Castle - the rooms looked too small for us, but the worst was the service. We only had a limited amount of time due to the train schedule, but the person that was supposed to show us around was running late and we had to wait for 20 mins. Then someone else came and quickly showed us around, but he even showed us into a small dining room (with just one long table) where some family was having a private dinner! It was extremely awkward...everyone looked at us! Great that we got to see the room (one of the cocktail hour rooms), but it shows how careless their service would be on your wedding day.
On the other hand - we absolutely loved Lyndhurst. I loved how it had a history behind it and wasn't some fake castle built just for weddings. The grounds are gorgeous. It was just a little hard for our guests to get to, but if you're looking in Westchester anyway, you should definitely take a look.

Re: castles or Mansions in westchester
great thanks! I'm hoping there's a nice ballroom or facility at lyndhurst in case it rains. I heard the bathroom is located inside the mansion. So if it rains than my guest would have to step out of the tented area to get to the mansion. Hopefully its not far. Thanks for the feedback.
