Let's discuss. What are you registering for, and why?
I am so torn and don't feel comfy asking for both sets. Right now, I have Corelle which is nice, but I want to replace it. I bought it right after college at Walmart, and have 4 settings. Time to move on!
Any input is appreciated!!

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
Just doing everyday dinnerware...
I'm never going to use formal china personally..and my mom has 3 sets so she'll give me one some day anyways if I do want to use it down the road.
The way I look at it is this... I picked out really nice every day white dinnerware, I also registered for very nice place mats and formal napkins to dress it up as well as charger plates. I'm very satisfied with it

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I was just thinking about this very issue! I want china, because it is kind of like a once in a lifetime thing. I am not going to buy myself a set of fine china. That being said, I cannot see an occasion that I would have to use it. My family is really young, so by the time I might be in the running for hosting holidays I will be at least 50. FSIL and her hubby are buying a really big house, so they will most likely be hosting holidays when it comes time. And, we don't really have formal parties or anything like that. Our friends are more of the BBQ ilk.
Soooo...I feel like it is kind if a waste to register for them. We have a nice set of everyday dishes from Crate and Barrell, but FH bought them before we met, so I kind of want to pick out my own.
I have to be moderate with my registry because we are having a small wedding.
Choices, choices.....

I LOVE my china but if I hadn't fallen in love, I would have just gone with everyday.

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I dont love my Corelle at all, and wish I did. That would make picking out fancy china a lot easier.
My pattern is called Shadow Iris, and I got it bc my mom's name is Iris and I was being cute-sy. lol
I love Corelle .. but refused to get it because I know FH and his ex used to have the same exact set I wanted LOL
So we got this cool black square set when we moved 2 months ago and threw out my old everyday set.
I plan on registering for a new white everyday set, probably from Crate and Barrel. I know the real china would be a waste for us :(

We are just doing every day dishes. We are not getting China.
We are registered for Crate and Barrell- Kita and I love them! We already got to place settings as an engagement gift!

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I don't even think I have room to put china in my house. I don't do family events so I would have no use for something fancy.

I am just registering for everyday china. It seems ridciulous to make people pay almost $100 per place setting. My Grandma is giving me her good china.

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I may have to go to Crate and Barrel and walk around sometime soon. If Casual China can be really nice, or jazzed up with table accents, I might be game.
Thanks girls!

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I did both- I only did 8 place settings vs 12 though... my fine china is beautiful & I hope when I have a house, to be hosting parties, dinners, etc.
my casual/everyday china is by Goram (I think that's the spelling?) it's an all in one box kinda deal- but it actually is bone china- its simple white, and it can be dressed up or down, so that's why I like it.

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
IMO you should register for everything and anything that you want -- even if you already have some stuff at home, get knew stuff -- because people will buy it for you. if you think its expensive, then they will give it as a group gift.
I registered for 12 sets of every day dishes and fine china. We got all of it at the eparty. Some people say that their china just sits there and is never used, but I know I will use it.
If you like it, then register for it because its really the only time that you will be able to get this stuff because odds are you arne't going to go out and buy it in the future (unless you have the money).
HTH!

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I may try to find moderately priced casual china, and somewhat moderately priced fine china. I just have expensive taste and like what I like (dont we all?) and dont want to seem a glutton.
I know we only do this once, and I should just get over it. lol
and ps, I am not having an e-party, and my bridal shower likely will be on the smaller side bc my bridal party has to pay for it, so I wont get everything I register for. I am almost 100% sure of it.

Re: Casual China vs Everyday China
I registered for fine china, was shocked that some could be over 100 dollars a setting! i tried to find a more in the middle priced one, but if people don't want to get it , i'll just get it myself. to me i love to cook /host so i want to make sure i have nice china.
but i definitely felt guilty registering for such expensive things.....!

I have seen fine china on sale at Macy's for a one day super deal. Sets normally 125 are on sale for $75, so if I do register for china, I am doing it at Macy's!
