Casual Reheasal Dinner?

Original post by leecr7

Is it okay to have a casual rehearsal dinner? I'd love to have pizza and beer at my godmother's house after our rehearsal, but I'm not sure if that would come off as insutling to the bridal party. It's supposed to be a dinner to thank them, right? To be honest, it would be nice to save a little money there too!

What do you think?

That's an awesome idea and that's exactly what I am trying to organize! It's the best thing to relax the night before in a comfortable, casual setting!

go for it!!

I'm doing a BBQ at my parents house the night before for the RD. We also want to relax the night before. Plus we dont think it is worth the extra money. It will be a more intimate & enjoyable at home.

I am very simple, and so is my BP, so I am having the RD at my mother's house and having the food catered. My BP and families are all close, and to me this is better for us. We would rather hang out late after and not worry about having to leave the restaurant....

I think that is fine.

My DH and I had our rehersal by my parents house. We ordered 10 pies of pizza and my parents have a bar so everyone got to drink what they wanted. We had so much fun. It was casual and even people that were not in our bp came over family, friends, etc. That's what was in our budget!!!

I think if your BP is insulted by a casual RD then they need to re-assess themselves. A RD is NOT a dinner specifically to thank the BP -- your GIFTS are to thank them. The purpose of a RD is to have some food after rehearsing for the upcoming ceremony.

I've been to 2 casual (beer and pizza) RDs and I thought they were a lot of fun! You're paying for a wedding -- expenses start to get very tight right beforehand and its completely understandable that you want to cut costs where you can. I say go for it! If other people get 'insulted' or have something to say -- tell them 'okay, how bout you pay for it then'. They're going to a really nice dinner the next night -- its called your WEDDING.

I could not have said it better!!!!

We're doing semi-casual. My parents have a big deck overlooking the pool and a lower deck with a hottub, tables and chairs on both. I don't think we'll be swimming but I'd like to dress it up with some tiki-torches and white xmas lights, then I'll have food catered in (probably just trays of italian and a hero) and a cake. I'll just get some wine and beer and keep it simple.

We can't afford to do a fancy RD, and FHs mom can't either- so hopefully she will be able to buy the cake or make some hors d'ouevres or something...

I agree- if anyone has anything to say about a casual RD, they should reassess their attitudes

I think thats totally fine. I was in a BP and they had the rehearsal dinner at the groom's dad's house to save money, I wasn't insulted at all, it was a good time!

I am hoping for good weather so we can do a bbq - but the bowling idea sounds like so much fun!!!

I am having a lunch instead of a dinner. I don't think I'm saving much $$ but you might be able to get a better deal at some places...

Honestly, I would do whatever I wanted...If that's what you feel more comfortable with, do it!!
