Casual Reheasal Dinner?

Casual Reheasal Dinner?

Is it okay to have a casual rehearsal dinner? I'd love to have pizza and beer at my godmother's house after our rehearsal, but I'm not sure if that would come off as insutling to the bridal party. It's supposed to be a dinner to thank them, right? To be honest, it would be nice to save a little money there too!

What do you think?

I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all... I've been to a few casual and the weddings are very dressy. We have a black tie affair in July, but for the RD the couple is having friends over for a BBQ. I think that's great b/c the next day everyone has to get dressed up and spend a lot on hair. Why not let them come comfortable to the RD...

I say go for it. FH & I want a casual dinner too. We are going to ask one of his sisters if we can have it at her house and have a BBQ.

I think its great! If thats the style youre looking for and comfortable with, go for it. I want to do something a bit laid back too. I also think it doesnt matter what the venue, you can thank your BP in a million diff ways

ETA: now that i think about it, a BBQ may be our speed too for the RD, thx for the idea girls.

well personally, i think it depends on your bridal party - if they are col with that, then definitely.

I have people in my bridal party traveling from pretty far in LI (we are in queens) and pennsylavania. I think they might get insulted if we only offered beer and pizza

I think if your BP is insulted by a casual RD then they need to re-assess themselves. A RD is NOT a dinner specifically to thank the BP -- your GIFTS are to thank them. The purpose of a RD is to have some food after rehearsing for the upcoming ceremony.

I've been to 2 casual (beer and pizza) RDs and I thought they were a lot of fun! You're paying for a wedding -- expenses start to get very tight right beforehand and its completely understandable that you want to cut costs where you can. I say go for it! If other people get 'insulted' or have something to say -- tell them 'okay, how bout you pay for it then'. They're going to a really nice dinner the next night -- its called your WEDDING.

That's all I plan to do. Either pizza at my mom's or a BBQ at the beach, depending on weather. We have a lot of OOT guests and I'd like to invite them, but we can't afford to do that at a restaurant.

We are doing a casual RD at my mom's. I hired a waitress for the house to set up and work throughout so we don't have to clean up or anything and thats it. We are getting a beer ball and all cold food plus a bbq. Since our wedding is black tie we thought it was a great balance.

i don't think there's anything wrong with a casual RD. we're doing it out at a casual restaurant. originally we were going to do it at my parents house, but since the bridal party is large and there are a lot of aunts/uncles coming from out of town, the party is gonna be for approx. 50 people and my mom was kinda freaking out about hosting a party for 50 people, however casual, the day before the wedding. but we're still going to a place where you can wear jeans. and then we're gonna have friends over after dinner for some beers. should be a good time.

I think that's perfectly acceptable. My friend did a bowling party for her RD and it was so much fun--very relaxed and just a plain old good time.

Honestly, I think that is perfectly fine. Your BP whom are close to you, I am sure understand how much of an investment and financially straining a wedding can be. I do not think they would or should take your idea as an insult. I am also trying to save a few extra dollars if possible. Initially I was thinking of a BBQ, but now have decided on a semi-casual diner at a favorite chinese restaurant in my area. Because of the family style serving, it is less expensive and still nice!

I think it is fine, for my sister's we just had some pizza and then went out for a couple of drinks to let everybody relax from the stress of everything. For ours we are going to a little restaurant that has a patio and just having some simple foods and hanging out with the BP and some close friends and family!
