I was hoping you could give me some DVM advice. I have a 9 year old cat that is really constipated. He already spent 2 nights at the vet's and now 2 weeks later is sick again. I really love him and am not ready to give up on him but I also don't have too much money to spend on doctors that seem to leave him the same. He had 2 enemas at the vet and is now on special food. He was good for a week but since he's an outdoor cat it was hard to tell if he was pooping or not. I guess he wasn't. What can I do to help?

Re: Cat Constipation
I give my cat Laxatone when he has hair balls and it helps with constipation. Unfortunately, being an outdoor cat does shorten their lifespan...so try to take care of him as best you can & know the he's at least happy outside...my kitty would love to be outdoors, but I can't do that to him (he's a Himalayan and a huge push over, he would never survive).
They sell Laxatone at pet stores or your vet could give you some.

Re: Cat Constipation
Need to talk to your vet about lactulose and/or cisapride to help with your cats problem. Good luck.

Re: Cat Constipation
He may be getting into something outside. It's time for him to become an indoor cat.
I'm sure you won't kill your cat for being constipated! So, talk more to your vet and definitely try keeping him as an indoor cat from this point forward.
