Nobody jump down my throat please... I'm not having my cats declawed, I just want to know why some think it's inhumane?
Because I just read that it is 'extremely' painful but humans don't know because most cats won't show any outward signs of pain, i.e. whining, crying, licking at their paws, etc.. They'll just curl up in a ball and sleep.
So how do we know it's painful? Just curious.
I know the risks of cats not being able to defend themselves, but people with declawed cats keep them indoors. Aren't their risks with letting kids outside to play?
I would never personally do it to one of my cats but I'm just curious as to why people are so against it?

Re: Cat Declawing
The reason why people are so against it is because in order to declaw the cat you have to cut the nail down to the point you shave off part of the bone on each toe. I useed to work as a vet tech for 9 yrs, so I personally know. I used to discourage owners, but if it became a choice between keeping the cat or dumping it, I say declaw it. Also never declaw the back paws. They need those to walk and jump. Those do no damage unless your cat does what I call the bunny legs...lol

I agree. I am a receptionist at an animal hospital and FH works as a technician at the same hospital so we hear all these concerns on a daily basis...I personally dont like it, but I say if you want to do it do it at an early age..you can start at 3mths and never on older pets...4yrs and up NO!. And yes, never do the back paws..I mean they do need something to defend themselves.
