Cat owners..... Ever get a bored/lonely cat?

Cat owners..... Ever get a bored/lonely cat?

So Buddy's moved in.

He's bored out of his little furry mind!

He just walks around all the time or curls up. He looks so unhappy. THIS is why I wanted to adopt a kitten.

Buddy's 7. Old enough to be an Adult about having a new kitty. Jim was so against it, but now he feels guilty seeing Buddy so listless.

Any ideas?

My mom got a kitten about 6 years ago, and our other cat (who was about 8) did not take it well. She was a crabby cat prior to the arrival of the kitten, but honestly, she still hasn't gotten over it and the two cats do not get along. But I am sure that some cats of that age would be fine with a kitten.

How long have you had him?

Jim adopted Buddy in March of 2000, just weeks before I met Jim.

He was a little over a year old from the North Shore Animal League.

He's never been a cranky cat. He hardly ever meows and is generally just your average garfield. Food and Naps. He's really playful when he wants to be and is the kid to be afraid of new people then curious and will toss over on his back and wiggle at you if he realizes you won't hurt him (all in 20mins of meeting him).

He's lovable, if I had to give him a word. I feel bad that he's just so bored. We want to get him a shelf hamper thing so he can look out a window again. But it has to wait until the next pay day (the 1st).

X, did Buddy have company at your previous home? If he lost a friend in the move, thats probably why he is lonely. Or he could just be adjusting to the new place?

We adopted a kitten for our cat. She didn't like it at first, but we followed ALL the behaviorial rules about introducing them, and within a month she was tolerant. Now, when the kitten goes to visit his brother (who lives in the same building - it was a rescue situation), my cat goes looking for him and misses him.

I have an adult (7) female cat, so we got a male kitten (they say opposite sex is best).

It's been wonderful. My vet says she feels terrible for cats that live without another feline companion...that it's like if we were raised by loving elephants - they could give us everything except another human to interact with...

Also, the vet recommends 30 full minutes of play time every day, at a minimum....

Buying a kitten for mean old Gunnar was the best thing we could have ever done!
We've all hear the stories about how nasty Gunnar can be....but with his kitten - he is a completely different cat. He loves her more than he loves the taste of my flesh in his mouth...which is saying A LOT!!
Sometimes I'm sad that I waited 14 years to buy him a kitten so I could see this side of him, but then I realize that I wouldn't have found the perfect kitten, Scout.

Would u want to get another adult cat??

If not, cats love small toys(mice, balls with bells). They don't like playing with big cat toys.

Also, try, get boxes from the grocery store. My cats love when I bring home a box and sprinkle cat nip in it. Big plastic bags are great too. Just cut a whole in the bottom of the bag and cut the handles in two so the cat can't get hurt. Theylove jumpiing and hiding in the bags.

straws are a great toy for them to play with.\
So ae cat condos.

i Used to volunteer in a cat shelter, so I got a lot of ideas from there.

good luck

If you do adopt (never buy of course) a kitten (a kitten doesn't have to be new born, any cat that is youthful, playful - perhaps under 2 years, should be fine), get a behaviorist or vet to give you some advice on how to introduce them, it can make a big difference
