Catering Halls

I tried three times and failed to produce a graph you all could read. Sorry, but the only way to show this info is as follows: The categories, listed in order of probable importance, are Ambiance, Reputation, Dinner Food, Cocktail Hour food, Reception Rooms space & decor, Lobby space & decor, Photo Friendly, Number of affairs per space, Grounds, Bridal Suites, Management, Staff. The following list are the halls we judged. Fox Hollow, Chateau Briand, Westbury Manor, Crest Hollow, Jericho Terrace, Woodbury Country Club, Russo's on the Bay,Milleridge Cottage. Now, make a graph and assign these numbers; Fox7,9,6,6,6,2,7,3,8,3,8,6. C.B.8,9,6,8,7,4,5,5,8,6.W.M.6,9,6,6,6,1,6,3,8,4,8,6.CHCC7,7,5,6,8,8,7,2,6,9,7,6.J.T7,8,6,6,8,7,7,3,47,8,6.WCC7,7,6,6,7,7,6,7,6,6,5,5.Russo's8,10,10,10,9,2,1,4,1,6,10,8.Mill.7,7,6,6,7,3,5,9,6,4,7,6.

You are also right about the importance of meeting with more than one photographer. I've met with 2 and spoken to three on the phone. The other photographer I met with was intimidating and kind of flacky. Her prices were slightly less than the person I really like, but our personalities did not mesh.

I know you are trying to provide good info..but this is tough to read. FH info 2 on the lobby? I thought the lobby was very nice...with the woodworking and fireplace. Unless you giving a 2 to something else.

STATS ON FOX

Phyl, Although it is attractive, it lost points because they will accomodate 3 parties at a time and we felt that the lobby was somewhat small compared to others.

Sorry about how hard it is to read. The fault lies in the fact that this site will not support a graph like list. I tried three times

STATS ON FOX

Heather,

We are vendors that have worked in each of these halls an average of one hundred times. So, all stats are PURELY opinions as we have learned over close to forty years of total experience. Again, sorry about the format but we feel that if you want an objective viewpoint with no money involved, this could be informative.

Rude comments on Flash Stats

Chitter Chatter......I've been silent through all the hoopla of late so let's not get back into all the nonsense......opinions are just that--take them or leave them, it's up to you. The thing is, people have stopped giving their opinion on here because of a response like yours. It seems people are not willing to tell you what they think because of the backlash they may get. Every person is different. Some people are into the mirrors and glitz, some the wooden rustic look. There are some that pick a place purely for the food or grounds or some other aspect. While Russo's may not be your taste, you are hurting someone's feelings out there that's picked that hall for their special day....just something to think about.

yes, fh does not have a ballroom size lobby...but Ididn't think that 3 parties of guests would need to pass through the lobby at the same time. Has this been the case when you were there? I was told that the other parties would have separate entrances on the ballroom side of the building.

Very good workshop. Like Deirdre, rob & I thougth we were pretty buttoned up- this confirmed it to us. The priest did run throught what there ceremony would be like. That is when I found out that we have 2 readings to be performed!

GO!! and go with an open mind. This is a chance to think/talk/discuss topics that you may not touch upon in everyday conversation.

Phyl, If they are using the patio for the CH, then the guests can eventually use the side entrance for the ballroom. However, in less than good weather, the lobby can get crowded.

Hi. I live in Massapequa. I went to Broadway favors for bridal shower favors for a friends shower. They have a huge selection but they werent very friendly. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. They do have a wide variety of favors so it might be worth the ride.

of traffic....MY CH is in the WInter garden pav..room with the glass ceiling..with the ceremony right before in the outdoor garden at the right of the entrance. Recept in the Briar fox room. So I don't think my guests will need to wade thru a lot of lobby traffic to get to the CH. Am I wrong? It might be a bit tought to get some guest outside to take our photos though. Any suggestions besides tying them up and holding them hostage???

I have the same issue Phyllis. My cocktail hour is in the garden where my pictures are. I have 5 sister-in-laws I'm marrying into and I have 4 brohters and sisters, add the spouses, kids and walla..... just try and get a picture! I'm going to give them lollipops to come over to the camera. ha ha ha ha. I'm actually letting them all know at the rehearsal dinner the night before that I need them for 1/2 hour when we first get to the cocktail hour. I'm hoping it works, if not, oh well. At least I have my pictures. I have too much to worry about at this point. It's overwhelming all these details don't youthink

Thanks for the info!!

When I started sharing my ideas on this board ten months ago, it was a real pleasure. During that time there were many disputes and disagreements that transpired. They would heat up for a day, and then dye down. For some reason the controversy continues on this site continuously now. It seems that people are more interested in keeping it going then sharing thoughts an ideas about wedding planning. That is why I was here not for all of the drama, since that is what the board has turned into the time has come for me to depart. I am sorry that I will not get to hear all of the details of some of the wedding planning that I have been following, and I thank all of you for you input, ideas and support throughout the planning of my own. If anyone is interested in contacting me please feel free to do so, via email, since I will not be checking back on the board. My wedding was wonderful and I have nothing but positive experiences to share with you all. If anyone is interested in any one the vendors that I used please feel free to also contact me via email.. They were all wonderful and I would use each and everyone of them again

Phyl & Kate, They are going to move your guests very efficiently from one place to another. What you need to do is understand that wedding day time goes extremely fast. You and your photographer should start as early as possible and get as much done before the ceremony starts. What else do you have scheduled that A.M.? Ha ha.

If any of you are torn about the issue of B&G seeing each other before the Cer., understand where the superstition comes from. Centuries ago, marriages were arranged between 2 Fathers looking to swap land for some cows, or whatever. If the handsome prince got a look at the ugly daughter, he would blow the deal. Today that only remains as a superstition. A smart photographer lets the B&G have a few moments alone when they first meet. It is also a great time for some unobtrusive candids.

I never knew that tradition Flash. I had a photographer deny me the job because I wouldn't see my fiance before the ceremony. I personally just don't want too. Thanks for the history.

hi everyone... we've decided to hire a dj because bands are just so expensive. however, i think most dj's think i'm crazy!!! i've spoken to a couple of them and then don't understand why i don't want props and tons of lighting effects and just a dj (no mc). what i want is someone to play music for my cocktail hour and reception, make minimal announcements, and maybe have one pretty light that sprays stars everywhere. have any of you found a dj like that that you like (in suffolk county preferably)? i'm having my reception at the port jefferson country club and they recommend Apple.. have any of you had experience with them? thanks for any info and happy planning!!! :)

If you need further info feel free to contact me at anytime:-)

Kate,

Consider...figure out what each half hour is costing you. Then, understand that your heart will feel as if you are cheating yourself of precious time and wasting your "Day", thereby not even looking your best for the photos. A photographer that tells you that he doesn't want the contract is just being honest. If he knows that he can't live up to your expectations, hedoesn't need the bad press.

Hi Flash: I wasn't upset with the way he does his work, I was just a little sad that he refused the wedding because I wouldn't see my fiance first. I loved his work and yet I wanted the tradition of not seeing my fiance. I am pretty easy going when it comes to my vendors because if they show up and do a good job for me, I'm happy. I'm really not picky. Sort of a whatever you think is best; just on my photography I wasn't like that. Thanks for the advice.

This is the place that I need directions to. Sorry ! and thanks!

The Metropolitan, Glen Cove

You can't even compare The Metropolitan with places like Fox Hollow or Westbury Manor ! The Metropolitan is in a league of it's own. The food is unsurpassed! The look of the place is breath-taking! and of course I will be the only Bride there on my special day! The Metropolitan is the best kept secret when it comes to catering halls. You can go to those places if you like the "wedding factory" types with glitz & lights!

good luck and keep us posted !!!

Good luck and let us know how you did.

Flash or anyone else, Have any of you been to the Water Mill in Smith Town, What did you think?? Food, service, etc

Hi Joanna, We used Dante in Westbury. Ask for Mike if you go there, he is the owner and he was great to work with . We found them from the web. Look at www.dantetux.cjb.net. They have a great wedding special online. Good Luck, Lisa

Good luck and let us know how you did.

the Water Mill

NB, We have been there numerous times since the Scottos took over. They have poured a ton of money into the place as they do with all their ventures. The food and the CH are good, especially if you get the seafood option. The rooms are relatively spacious and decorated nicely. The grounds are a plus and there are numerous places for photo ops. Management is way above average. The staggered parties don't seem to bump into each other.

It was a bit sad to hear the tone of the bride who is having her reception at the Metropolitan, when she made disparaging remarks about a few other halls. All caterers have pluses and minuses. She should have accepted that and not have been nasty about someone else's taste or budget. How would she like it if someone did the same about her choice?

Good luck and let us know how you did.
