I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but I have had parties catered by Sol Mia (I think...right next to the movie theater in the shopping center with Marshalls, LNT, Red Lobster in Stonybrook), Strawberry Fields in Stonybrook, Green Cactus in Stonybrook and Haus of Heros in St. James.
ETA: Okay, I just saw your edit. Skip Haus of Heros and green cactus then. Sol Mio is great.

My sister is a caterer and typically they are about the same cost as a deli only better food.

try Corrines Concepts and Catering...she in Huntington....I have known her for 20+ years and shes doing my wedding....tell her you were referred by Ruth and EB (my auntie and mom) you can find her on the web

I know it's not that close, but Country Roads Catering is awesome. I used them for my engagement party. You would be very pleased. They are in Amityville.

If you're looking for some amazing Italian food try La Grova on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove. They have the best meatballs!!
