Re: Cathholic Brides-Unity Candles
From what I understood (from our priest) the unity candle is NOT a part of the marriage ceremony/mass/ sacrament. It's a nice touch to add, but has nothing to do with a Catholic ceremony.
We are not doing it.

We didn't do it either. It is a modern addition to the ceremony, not part of Catholic tradition. We had a full mass and I didn't want to make it longer than it already was.

NOT a catholic tradition. Purely secular option

I'm not doing it. It's definitely not part of the traditional Catholic ceremony.

I was thinking of not doing it or doing a unity sand ceremony since Fh and I love the beach and we got engaged on the sand/beach. I don't know if the church would go for it. Do you think it is a silly replacement instead of the candles?

We are having a ceremony only at the church and decided to do the candle lighting. I think its a nice touch plus we are including our parents in it which I think they will be happy about.

We're having a ceremony, so we are doing the unity candle as an 'extra'.

I don't think it's a silly replacement but I would definitely check with your priest before setting it all up. I'm not sure the church will go for it.
