Catholic Bride Q...

Catholic Bride Q...

I was curious if you have heard of the Blessed Mary Dedication that is done on the wedding day ~ a friend from work was telling me about it and it is something that I would be interested on but wanted to find more information about it...

Anybody have any knowledge on this...

thanks a bunch!

I think this is the same thing as bringing flowers to Mary. We did this at my wedding. It's kind of a symbol of asking Mary to help you be a good wife and good mother.

this is a tradition that is common at Catholic Weddings... however, it is NOT necessary and is does not have to be done if you don't want to do it,

basically what happens is at some point during the ceremony or Mass, the brides leaves a bouquet of flowers or a rose at Mary's altar/statue. usually during this time, a Mary hymn is sung (i.e. Ave Maria, Immaculate Mary, Lady of Knock, Salve Regina, etc.)

At a ceremony only, it is usually done right after the unity candle is lit....

I had a Mass and we did it AFTER Communion.

Many Catholic brdies do it if they have a devotion to Mary.... it is also a nice way to honor your mother or groom's mother as Catholics pray to mary as she is the 'mother' of the Church and of us all... it's a nice touch. We did it in memory of DH's mother who is passed... not a dry eye in the house... We presented my mother and his father with a rose after Communion, then took the rest of the roses to Mary's altar.

HTH.... FM if you need more info.,

you're welcome! you could totally do this in memory of your grandmother. it wouldn't be announced as such, but you could put it in the program. what we did was in the program we put 'Presentation to the Blessed Mother' and the name of the song and underneath that we just put 'In Loving Memory of ...........'

GOOD LUCK! :)
