Did you do a unity candle?? FH dosent want to do one but I do. The Deacon said that they are actually not part of the Catholic right and should not be done in a Roman Catholic service. He said the unity candle is actually a pagan tradition.

Re: Catholic Brides
i wont be doing one. . .
it has nothing to do with the catholic church - although i have never heard of a priest having a problem with it
i guess your priest must be VERY conservative, he probably thinks it is wrong to add anything to the ceremony. . . since it is supposed to just be about taking your vows before God
I like the symbolism of it and all but i just didnt want one

wow... I didn't know that! I bought mine already and love it, so I guess we're doing it! lol. plus it's a nice memento of the ceremony to keep forever.

Re: Catholic Brides
i am doing one... i like the symbolism: the unity of the two flames/families being brought together...
however, your priest may not allow it because NO WHERE is it a part of the Wedding Rite in the Catholic Church. it is a secular tradition that has been adapted by many Catholic brides and many priests allow it, although some do not, because like i said, it is not a part of the marriage rite. the unity, becoming one, etc. etc. is all taken care in other aspects of the Rite.
but if your priest would rather you not do it, and your FH doesnt' want it, i would definitely skip it. it's not like your including something that is actually part of the wedding rite... it's just a nice touch. Hope this helps....

Actually, the Deacon said that we could do it if we want. But he reminded us that it is not part of the Catholic Tradition. AND, FH dosent want to do it. I think we might skip it, even though I want it. I guess I have to compromise
