Re: Catholic Brides: Ceremony or Full Mass?
We're in the book right now for a full mass - which should take about an hour or so...but the priest that is doing our mass is a rusher - so we may be in and out within a half hour...

don't get pushed into anything you don't wanna do. he can't make you do a mass. if you want a ceremony, just say 'no thank you, but ceremony is the way we want to go'.
good luck

Re: Catholic Brides: Ceremony or Full Mass?
We are doing a ceremony(30 Min), although Full mass is nice when you are catholic. Not alot of my guest will appreciate it. Plus my FG and RB are babies and I am sure they will get antsy with a full hr mass.
One of my sisters biggest compliments were that her ceremony was short and sweet and they really enjoyed it. So if you want a ceremony dont let the preist bully you into doing something else!!

We have the exact opposite, we want a full mass and the priest is only offering us a ceremony. He says because we are new parishioners and he doesn't know us. I think it's BS and my mother is having a fit. She said if he tries to deny us a mass, she going to the Bishop (who she actually knows personally, hehe).
IMO, if you are a practicing catholic (go to mass every weekend, etc.) you should have a full mass. I just think we put all this time and effort into the wedding, but primarily focus on the party. The wedding is the church part and should be looked at as something very important and special. I wouldn't feel right about having a quicky ceremony, it just wouldn't seem real enough to me. But again, just my opinion.

the mass will include all the typical parts a normal Sunday mass include, i.e. prayers, communion, etc.

A ceremony does the exchanging of the vows, three readings and the Priest speaks. However, the mass does the Eucharist, All the readings (1st, 2nd, gospel), Preist speaks, exchanging of the vows. basically everything included in a sun mass. I love them because I go to church.. but not everyone is religious or quite appreciative (like my FH & some family members).

Re: Catholic Brides: Ceremony or Full Mass?
Nuptial Mass - we wouldn't have it any other way. Most times if the bride and groom are both Catholic it is stronghly encouraged that there be a full mass. What better way to start off your marriage than by sharing the Eucharist. If one person is not Catholic, it is usually just a ceremony.
Text from the Cathecism: In the Latin Rite the celebration of marriage between two Catholic faithful normally takes place during Holy Mass, because of the connection of all the sacraments with the Paschal mystery of Christ.120 In the Eucharist the memorial of the New Covenant is realized, the New Covenant in which Christ has united himself for ever to the Church, his beloved bride for whom he gave himself up.121 It is therefore fitting that the spouses should seal their consent to give themselves to each other through the offering of their own lives by uniting it to the offering of Christ for his Church made present in the Eucharistic sacrifice, and by receiving the Eucharist so that, communicating in the same Body and the same Blood of Christ, they may form but 'one body' in Christ.122

Re: Catholic Brides: Ceremony or Full Mass?
Our priest told us a ceremony would be 30 minutes, but that a full mass he can have done in 42 minutes. My mother would have a hissy if I didn't schedule mass, so we went that route, plus FH and I couldn't imagine ourselves not getting eurcharist after our vows.

Re: Catholic Brides: Ceremony or Full Mass?
Everyone wanted just a ceremony (including the priest, my FH's uncle) EXCEPT my FH (ok, so maybe my grandfather and his grandmother too) so we're doing the full mass. I just don't like the feeling of anyone staring at me up there on the alter for so long!
