Catholic Brides-How long did it take for the church to call you back?

After playing phone tag for months, I finally got to speak to someone at my church and somewhat reserved my date. The woman I spoke (who was very helpful) told me I should be hearing from the Deacon to setup an initial appt....well that was over a month ago. Now I know that my wedding is a ways away....so my question is:

How long before your wedding did you actually speak to the Deacon/Priest?

I called the church & said I would like to make a appt to get married,, LOL Im reading that back & its sounds funny, but that is what I said,,

So I did , made the appt, went & met the priest,,

Yeah, It only took about 2-3 days for them to call me back (I left two messages though) and then another 2 days to actually go in for my appointment.
I made sure I asked for the priest who schedules the weddings so that the message was given to the correct person.

LOL...I feel like they don't like me or something...and I go to church every Sunday and even went to school there but no one wants to talk to me. ARGH frustrating!!!

Here's the long end of it.

Jan/Feb 05 - FH and I called our Church and said we needed to book an appointment to reserve our wedding date. We met with our priest for about an hour or two and he reviewed the packet of information for us. They didn't have the sept 06 calendar avail yet, so we got our choice of dates and times. We told the priest what we wanted and he said within the next 3 weeks, they would need the reservation money to reserve the date, singer and organist and during this time, I had to send them all my documentation from my Church upstate that I had received all my sacraments. This was taken care of by the end of March 05.

I called the Pre Cana coordinator around spring time and she said that I had a ways to go and didn't have to complete the pre cana now, and told us she would call us at the end of the year to set up something at the start of 2006. She called us a few weeks before xmas and we set up pre cana and finished at the end of Jan.

Since then, we haven't met with the Church and we need to speak with our priest and the music people to finalize what we went over in pre cana.

Mine took just a couple of days to get a call back. We spoke to the priest directly, and then made an appointment to go in and meet with him.

I would call your church back and ask if the deacon or priest has a voicemail. Just because it's a church, doesn't mean you might not be encountering the same incompetent folk in the secular world. lol. I think your waiting time has been waaaay too long. And you don't want it 'somewhat' booked... you want it permanently booked in EVERY book they own so there is NO mistake that your wedding is that date and time.

It is waaaaaaaaaay to soon to be reserving the date for your wedding and meeting with the priest...this is something you should start doing at the biginning of next year.

I had to call a few times before getting everything resolved but we finally have it all together now.

i had to go for RCIA, to be confirmed so the priest and deacon knew me VERY well. When I called for my appointment I heard back in an hour to make the appointment, and but my date was already booked, (Kind of backwards i guess) And i met with him a few days later I guess 3 or 4.....

i called out deacon and we set up the date we went throught that whole speaking to each of us seperatly things paid our deposit and booked our rh dinner and everything.

it was at this point the deacon told us to call him after easter, so i called him a week after. I left him 2 messages and he isn't calling us back either... grrrrrrrrrrr

I think most priests/deacons will get back to you within a day or two, but I think perhaps the delay is because there is SO much time before your wedding. Most churches do not even have the 2007 book out yet...I'd give it to the fall...

I'm sorry... I don't agree. I think you try to do all the big, important stuff like this ASAP. I booked my church 18 months before my wedding date to lock it in. What if she waits until the beginning of next year, and then can't get the date and time she wants? She's better off doing it now, especially since it looks like she already has her reception site booked... she needs the church time to coincide perfectly... and the earlier you do it, the more options you have.

It took about 2-3 weeks, but I called every other day or so and my mom even made a trip to the church. I know that is obnoxious, but it's an important step and I wanted it taken care of ASAP. Plus, I find that at my church the office personnel aren't too efficient, and actually gave one of my messages to the wrong priest - he didn't even officiate weddings!

It took me a while to get over it, but I've learned that even if you think you're being annoying you have to be persistent and keep calling otherwise it's not always done correctly or even at all! If you're getting married there, you need to know you can get in touch with someone in case of an emergency.

I called and reserved my date at my church a year and five months ahead of time...right after we got engaged. I think that as long as you know what church you want, book it!
It called the church and they didn't get back to me, so I went down there in person. It turns out they had the wrong phone number and had been trying to call me! I got an appointment right then and there. So, I would try going if you don't get a response.
