Catholic Brides-How long did it take for the church to call you back?
Original post by MNM7to7
After playing phone tag for months, I finally got to speak to someone at my church and somewhat reserved my date. The woman I spoke (who was very helpful) told me I should be hearing from the Deacon to setup an initial appt....well that was over a month ago. Now I know that my wedding is a ways away....so my question is:
How long before your wedding did you actually speak to the Deacon/Priest?
TIA

It took over a year for the Deacon to call us. We were told we'd be called within 6 months of our wedding. The wait was kiliing us!

Thankfully we haven't had any problems communicating with the church and priest. Usually we get a hold of him within a day.

It is waaaaaaaaaay to soon to be reserving the date for your wedding and meeting with the priest...this is something you should start doing at the biginning of next year.
I'm sorry... I don't agree. I think you try to do all the big, important stuff like this ASAP. I booked my church 18 months before my wedding date to lock it in. What if she waits until the beginning of next year, and then can't get the date and time she wants? She's better off doing it now, especially since it looks like she already has her reception site booked... she needs the church time to coincide perfectly... and the earlier you do it, the more options you have.
I disagree with the original quote as well... I was to get married in the church that where i received my communion and confirmation as well as attending the catholic school... i wanted to make sure that I WOULD be getting married at that church, and since i want to book everything else, i went and got that done 2 weeks ago, when my wedding is in 2008.

I actually had to show up there so I could speak to someone, they kept sayin they would call me back but they never did. When I finally did speak to someone, they told me that they did not yet have an agenda for next year!?! But that they would note my date on the back of this years agenda and then transfer it over, and for me to call back in August.

If they have definatly reserved the date for you wihtout talking to the priest or deacon I wouldn't worry. They probably are waiting until they have scheduled precana. In my church we had to meet the priest before they would schedule the wedding. If you want to put your mind at ease talk to the parish priest one Sunday and he may help you out.

you may want to call again..I called three churches
one was where i went to grammar school the other one was where I went to church regularly with my parents and where i got baptized and the other one is the parish that me and FH belong to since we are living together already...out of all of them I only had one problem with one of the churches calling me back. the other two churches called me back the next day
this was in February...and i still have not gotten a call back from that third church...I even called that church three times and left messages....
but i am good...we decided to go with the church that FH and I belong to currently...it is also the prettiest....I wonder which church it is your talking about...i wonder if its the same one...

That's the way it was for me too, I called on a Monday and made an appt that Wednesday to meet with him (which happened to also be the day we were signing the contract with the reception hall!) I guess you can say we booked the church first.
We are not getting married by a priest in the parish but there is a parish priest doing our paperwork. He does not check his voicemail (it doesn't even have his name on it when you choose him from the directory).
Just call every couple of days until you get in touch with someone. It is definitely not too early.
Every church is different! We weren't able to even discuss dates until we met with the priest. We went 15 months before our wedding date. My cousin and his fiance just called their church and they were able to reserve the date without meeting with the priest (they were told they are scheduled and to call back a year before their wedding date).

Maybe you should ask them directly what the delay is. My church doesn't 'allow you' to book the RH until the date has been reserved in church. Now I don't know if the same rtules apply at the church where you want to be married.
I would definitley call (again) and ask them who you should be speaking to. Let them know that you would like to finalize the RH, but feel that, since the church is important that you want to have that done first.

I agree with saragradio05 - my friends that are booked for next year have been for months in our case the priest met with the same week that we called

I'm getting married the day before you and had an appt. in Nov. 2005 and scheduled my wedding then. We already had a second meeting w/the priest and now we're on our way to pre-cana in July and will meet w/the priest again in Sept. 2007.
You should call them again.
Good Luck!

Totally disagree with this. If there is a particular church you want to get married in and on a specific day you should reserve it ASAP - you don't want to miss out and have someone else take your day.
