So, FH and I are both Catholic, but neither of us really practice. We both need to make our confirmation before getting married if we want to have a religious ceremony. But his parish told him we can't take a class until September. Obviously, that's not going to work since we're getting married in September. Anyone go through this process? Any words of advice?

Do you think that you can get confirmed earlier through another parish? You should call a few more to find out. I seem to remember that I was confrmed during the spring time.

I agree....you can probably get it done else where. confirmations are during different times at different churches. my friend is getting confirmed in kingston during easter (but that might be a little far...u can probably find something closer).
if u explain your situation im sure they can help u! good luck.

I agree maybe you can also contact some of the other Diocese as well. But I am almost sure there are earlier classes.

I have to make my confirmation as well. My parish agreed since I have made all my other sacraments that I did not have to take the full course to make my confirmation. Therefore, I will only be taking the last 4 or 5 classes sometime I think in Feb or March. Maybe you can see if your parish will allow you to do that.

I would try another parish as well. I belong to St Martin of Tours in Bethpage and they do an adult confirmation program for this very reason. GOod Luck!

I know that other parishes will do it right away if they know you are getting married. Call around to different parishes and see what they say.

Well, since FHs parish was completely useless and rude to him, I called mine and they said the same thing. Classes don't start until September. BUT, he said we don't have to have confirmation to get married. We just have to do precana. This is news to me. Anyone else ever hear that?

Yea I have never heard of that, but if that is what your church is telling you, then I guess they are right. I would just make sure of that before it is too late to take any classes.

Yes, I have made all of my sacraments but FH has all except confirmation. According to my priest you only have to have been baptised to be married in the church. Although if you would both like to make confirmation you may do it at a later date , before you have children and my priest encouraged FH to do this. We are attending precana. Hope this helps you..

I have never herd of that. I always though you had to make all in order to get married.

I would never say to lie, but the church I am getting married in only asked for proof of our baptism....not communion or confirmation...--so i'm confused.

We visited two churches in our area since we weren't a member of any parish. The one chruch said I didn't have to make my confirmation and the other one said I did.

I agree, I have all my sacrements completed, FH was only Baptised, we are having a full mass in the Catholic church. I think it all depends on your parish

Re: Catholic Brides...Help
to the best of my catholic knowledge, i didnt think it mattered if you were confirmed or not. i was baptised in michigan, my fh was here at the parish we are getting married at....the priest told us it was not a deal if the proof of confirmation was there or not. they said they ask for the baptismal certificate to confirm you have never been married before...that the both of you are going into the marriage freely....i would double check with the church...unless they want to make sure you receive all your sacraments. hth.

same here. he did ask in the interview if we ever make our confirmations, and since we did we told him we did.

All I can tell you is EVERY church is different! Some don't ask you for any papers while some are like p your a** about your papers for every sacrament. My MOH did not get confirmed and they still married her at the church she went to. (But she didn't tell the priest she wasn't) Good luck sweetie, this is a tough one!!! XOXOXO Kitty
