Catholic Brides....I have a dilema

Catholic Brides....I have a dilema

Ok, here's the deal, I am getting married the day before Easter so I cannot get married in a church. Me and FH wanted to go to a Roman Catholic church when we get back to NC after the honeymoon and have a little 'ceremony' with just me, DH and priest. Do you know if the Roman Catholic church will do this. Even if they just bless our rings, I would be happy. Thanks

Uhm I really dont know if they would bless the rings since they would want you to get married in the church during the time allowed...what about pushing the date by one week???

i can't see where that'd be a problem. if you are already married, it more like renewing the vows, right?

No, that wouldn't work, we picked the date because it has sentimental value. Thanks for the idea though

yeah - they should be able to bless your rings w/o a problem.

good luck...

Thats right I recall you mentioning it...I dont think it'll be a problem having a ceremony in the church after you two get back from the honeymoon...it'll be like renewing your vows...remember though, you still have to go through pre cana and you need witnesses...

yeah - you would need precana and all that if you were going to have another ceremony - but to bless your rings - they could do that in a supermarket - they shouldn't give you too much trouble.

Oh I dont know about the supermarket part, but it really depends on the priest...you know some of them could be a real pain and may require xyz before his parish does anything for you...

what if you got married in a methodist church or at the hall by a Catholic Priest?

plus, you'd have to do pre-cana, and it books up fast.

p.s. I hope you know a lot of older catholics don't eat meat at all during holy week. How many usually get the beef at a wedding. Just an add thing.....

haha, I hear ya, but I work in the business, and I've seen it before, I'm a cocktail hour manager, 'Does this have meat in it'. Plus my uncles a priest, I don't think that would fly. But, if it means that much to have that day, then go for it. But finding a priest is going to be tough, especially in a church.

What you could do is get married by a JOP, then have a renewal of your vows in a Catholic Church.

It's a good thing all my relatives and friends are heathens. And if they don't want to eat meat, we have a lot of non-meat foods. Thanks

If you both are Catholic and don't marry in the Church without the proper dispensation, then getting your marriage validated MAY be a problem in the future. My suggestion is to have a small ceremony in the church down there with just you, your fiance, your priest, and a few witnesses (so you will be married in the Church) and then have your bigger 'wedding' up here.

This way, your marriage would be valid from the outset, and you wouldn't have the whole issue of getting the validation later.

Just having your rings 'blessed' does not constitute a valid marriage. If you and your FI wish to be practicing Catholic's, which it sounds like you do, you need to have a valid marriage.

Remember, if you don't have a valid marriage in the eyes of the RC Church, you will be considered by the Church to be committing a grave sin by having sex with your husband (since the Church wouldn't consider him to be your husband). Therefore, you would not be able to participate in Communion, you could not be a godparent at a Catholic baptism, etc. This is not meant to flame or offend in any way, so *please* don't take it that way. It's also not meant to sound preachy-- simply stating what the Church teaches. And again, no matter what you choose, I wish you the best of luck and a wonderful marriage.

(I like St. Gabriel's in Charlotte, I used to go there with my sister!)

Thank you so much for that info, I appreciate it. I will have to think this through a little more. At first, I did not want to get married in the church becasue I did not want to lie to the priest and say that me and FH don't live together when we do. Oh decisions, decisions

I guess it's a good thing I am going to h*ll anyways

I agree, be totally honest with a priest, they won't judge you as much as you think.
