Did your priest/family/etc tell you to go to confession before your wedding?

My family and my priest told me to do so. Went on my lunch hour. Dont know if its mandated, but I feel pretty good that i went

We haven't had our final meeting yet with the priest; however, I planned on going.

I wanted a fresh start also and I also wanted to receive communion....since neither one of us has gone to church in awhile, then we wouldn't be able to receive without going to confession.

Nope!! No one has mentioned that to us yet...BUT

FFIL is a deacon and marrying us. he KNOWS we are having a mass to appease him, FMIL and my grandmother. The mass is NOT because we want it. So he asks that we go to church every sunday because we are having a mass. He called us in for a 'meeting' with him... which we THOUGHT we were laying out the ceremony part of the wedding but really it was just him telling us that we should go to church every sunday because we are having a mass ceremony and to ASK US WHY WE ARE HAVING A MASS. Uh because you want us to!!! And your wife and my grandmother. Actually he was making us go to mass before the meeting... but we were super late because we had 3 birthday parties the day before and overslept. Then the day of the 'meeting' was a sunday... which is also the day I do my grandmother's food shopping (EVERY SINGLE WEEK) so I had to make other arrangements for that... and basically rearrange the whole day for what I thought was a real and serious meeting... but only turned out to be a way to sucker us into going to mass.

Aside from that ordeal... I'm sick of my chruch... just in general not knowing ANYTHING at all... and they just got a new priest who is NASTY NASTY NASTY!!!! All the surrounding churches are hearing rumors about him.

At this point I'd much rather say my own confessions in my head. I feel like this whole thing is having the opposite effect of making me REALLY not ever want to go to church.

Fh is the same way. He used to be an altar boy, went to Catholic school his whole life and i guess he's just done with the church.

Im trying to be positive about it though!
