I dont think you get to decide the amount of donation. I think they tell you how much you have to Donate I have a meeting with the priest in a few weeks.

I dont think you get to decide the amount of donation. I think they tell you how much you have to Donate I have a meeting with the priest in a few weeks.

Just ask your Priest If they don't give you the exact amount. They will provide a range which varies sometimes by the number of guests.

My church wants $350 + $100 for the organist but never said anything about a donation.

we havent even discussed this with our church yet....but its supposed to be a donation....now churches are pretty much charging people!

Our 'suggested donation' is $350 and then another $200 for the organist/singer that we have to pay for whether we use or not.

Ours was 'suggested' to be $400. The priest told us that was the minimum and then if we wanted to give more to the organist we could. My FIL put 3 kids through catholic school there and have been members for 30 years . . .we should get a freebee ! ! !

My church lets us decide how much to donate. Each church does it differently. I think we are going to give 2 or 3 hundred.

WOw thats great... I know Most Churches charge/ Require at least a $500 Donation if not more. I just got engaged and we are going to talk to the priest in two weeks .. I will find out soon what I will have to donate.

I dunno - because mine wasnt called a donation - they had an itemized receipt that we are paying xx amt for electricity, singers, organist, priest, etc - so i dont think i can count it as a donation - but i'll give it a try at tax time!

We were asked to give $450. I will try to give more if I can as my church has been very good to my family, particularly my mom during difficult times.

I am probably asking to be crucified here and i really don't mean to sound obnoxious, but a lot of people on these boards complain about the donation to the church. in my opinion, the ceremony should be the most important part of the day. girls on this site will drop $4000 on flowers and well more than a $100.00 a person per plate at a reception hall, but complain about giving their church a reasonable amount... most of which goes to church programs and expenses and to the church musicians who often depend on weddings to make some extra money since they do not make much as it is. I don't know, I guess I just don't get it. If people can't give the Church a nice donation on their wedding day without complaining, maybe you should just get married elsewhere. and really, I don't mean to offend anyone, it's JMO. thanks...

I understand your point 100% but then they shouldnt call it a donation. I mean I go to Church EVERY Sunday or Sat. And i give $10 every week and i know the church needs the money but they should say there is a ???? charge . they shouldnt call it a donation
