Can you write your own vows if you get married in a catholic church?

I don't see why not though I haven't been to a catholic church wedding where the couple didn't say one of the standard vows. Maybe you have to do the church ones but maybe you have an option of including additional vows. I'm not sure at all though. Check with your church.

I really hope so because I'm planning on writing my own.

Hmm I, unfortunately, don't think you can. I mean, I guess it depends on the church.
My fiance and I are getting married in a Catholic Church and we are having a full mass. When we booked the date and met with the deacon he pointed out the 2 variations of vows that we could choose from. It makes me think that you probably can't steer away from those.
Maybe you can say something personal to one another in addition to saying traditional vows?

I haven't met with the priest yet to discuss any specifics.

i was engaged once before and i was getting married by the church then too. that church explicitly told me i would not be able to write my own vows. i had to use one of theirs, and i had three of their choices to choose from.
i am getting married now again next june and in a different church and they also told me i would have to use their vows. i don't believe the catholic church allows this

I think each church is different.. Some allow you to say your own vows and some dont.. I would ask ur church ![]()

each church i think is different...mine won't let us...and if we have a full mass we HAVE to use the regular readings, not the wedding readings because it's a sunday...
