Catholic Church regulations etc etc

Original post by daisyann923

My fiance and i are planning to get married in a catholic church. His time off (at home) is limited with his job and ot. So, does anyone know if both B & G are to be confirmed and have done their communion or just B or G. Also, i haven't rec'd any call backs from the priest to confirm a meeting etc etc. What should i do! I'm open to just having the ceremony at the reception venue! Decisions decisions!

Please help!

wow lady's thanks for all your posts and it's greatly appreciated. There are many views and i'm taking all into consideration. I guess once I speak to priest (whenever that might be, hopefully sooner than not), i'll have the actual answer. I'm catholic with all sacraments, my fh as well is catholic but was only baptized. I'm hoping the priest/church is lenient.

Thanks all

Will keep you all posted

well, since your Catholic with all your sacraments and your FH is a baptized Catholic, then there is NOTHING to worry about. there is nothing for the Church to be 'lenient' about as it is two Catholics getting married. your answer is that you are allowed to get married in a Catholic Church. However, you will only get to do a ceremony and not a Mass because your FH has not made his Communion, so therefore you could not have a Mass, unless he didn't receive and that would be a little awkward for the groom not to receive communion at a Nuptial Mass.

GOOD LUCK!

I think you can have a mass if you want to. I'm protestant and not even baptised and we could have had a mass if we wanted to but the mass is so much longer and my protestant family would not want to sit through a mass so to make everyone more comfortable and so it would not be so long we opted for the ceremony. Believe me, as far as the Catholic churches go, it's definitely a 'shop around' kind of thing. FH and I got rejected by at least 2 churches simply because we were not parishioners let alone anything else and then we found the right man for the job and it was smooth sailing from there.

Good luck though, they can be pretty nasty in my experience. I got so mad that I even made a complaint with the Archdiocese of Rockville Centre. If you can manage at all to convince FH and the family, make your own life easier and have the ceremony at the reception hall. I really wish I was

Hello Missy - welcome to the boards. I was SHOCKED to see you were on here LOL! But everyone can be so helpful!!! Yeah i'm an '06 bride..so what LOL!

I believe you have both have to have the sacraments, which is why I didn't get married in the church. But then again each church is different. When we baptized Milani they didn't care (Holy Cross in the Bx). You may want to check there and drop Arlene's name since Deacon Bellow knows her. Another suggestion, since you are having it in L.I. you may want to consider getting married at the hall..it can/will be just as nice and less of a headache.

Hope you are feeling well..I know I feel FAT! LOL!

My Catholic church only wants to see our Batisimal certificates. FH isn't even Catholic but they dont care about that. I think as long as both were batised it is ok.

I think it depends on your church. I know my church both have to have all sacraments, but I heard that other churchs you dont. So speak with the priest or decan there....

I just found a catholic church weddings had so many regulation to do with the ceremony (the kind of music played, what i am allowed to wear, etc).

I just realized I could not have the wedding I invisioned if I went along with it. It may cost more to do it at the RH but at least it will be the way I want it.

It definitely depends on the church! I'm getting married in a Catholic Church and FH has only been baptized.

Another issue was my FMIL. When we threw the idea of doing the Catholic Church ceremony around (i was doing it for my grandmother) she told me (& other people as I have heard) that she can't believe that I would do something so disrespectful to God (FYI, I am an athiest). I tried to explain to her that it would be a lot to my grandmother if I got married at her church since none of her children did.

So it's not that she just said that, she also told members of her family, co-workers & friends that I am a satanist (umm I'm an athiest, those are two diferent things!)

So this is starting to look real good.

Both the Bride and Groom DO NOT have to be catholic or make their sacraments. It may depend on the church but that is an old myth. You do have to do pre cana and have a meeting with the priest that is going to marry you.

Most churchs will marry if one of you has all sacraments....not both....although some will not do a full mass if both do not have.

My cousin married someone who is jewish in a church (obv he had no sacraments) their church was in Plainview LI
