Does anyone know if the readers during the ceremony HAVE to be Catholic too? One of the girls I want to do a reading is Jewish, do you think they will tell me no? FH thinks our church might??

Re: Catholic Wedding Reader Questions
I don't think they will ask if she is Catholic of not and why even bring up the subject. When they ask if you have readers just answer yes. If she is willing to do the reading - let her.

They don't have to be Catholic. Two of our readers were Episcopal.

no, it doesn't have to be anyone who is Catholic. they don't ask anything of the readers except to just read a few short sentences,.

Re: Catholic Wedding Reader Questions
I've heard of churches asking, but I wouldn't even dignify the question with an answer. That's information they don't need. My Aunt is not a practicing Catholic and she was a reader for me.

Re: Catholic Wedding Reader Questions
An Episcopalian reverend did one of our readings and DH's Grandfather did another. DH's grandfather is Methodist, and our Church had no problem with that. We also had our parents bring up the gifts during communion...my Dad is Christian Science, my Mom is Roman Catholic, MIL is Jewish, and FIL is Methodist...so I think it should be fine!

thats exactly what i was thinking if they give me some push back since my church happens to be a little on the stricter side. I just didnt think it would even be a concern.

Re: Catholic Wedding Reader Questions
Someone asked this question when I was at pre-cana and the woman said just not to mention it and it'll be fine. I think technically they have to be but you don't have to tell your church.

ITA!
ETA: They want the person proclaiming the word of god to be someone who believes in it. This should not be a problem as long as the jewish person does the 1st reading or psalm
