Cats and feeding

Cats and feeding

Those of you who don't free feed, how often do you feed your cat and how much? My Luke is quite the hefty boy and I don't want him to get too out of shape.

I feed my cats once a day and leave them plenty of water.

Once a day???? My FH would kill me if he knew that! I have 2 brothers who are a year and a few months old and I give them a little wet at 7 am (1/4 of a can for 2 of them), then leave dry during the day, then more wet at 5:30, then leave dry for them for the night? Am I overfeeding them??? One is a runt, my Luke on the otherhand...he gets picked on a lot by our friends, but I swear he is just long and muscular...

You are not overfeeding them! As far as I know you are supposed to feed them 2 times per day, once in the morning and once at night. I also leave crunchy food for them at all times - that is optional.

I've had cats all my life and that has been the method told to me from all my vets...

Ok whew. He is rather large, but I think it is his build and he retains a lot of water

Mine will ONLY eat Meow Mix and I give them (to share) a mugful in the morning and at night before bed. If I don't feed them before bed, they will wake me up to feed them - brats! One of them eats constantly and is not active at all - he is about 20lbs. The other is very active and eats now and then - he is about 9-12 lbs - somewhere in that range, I call him my little runt!

I feed my cats twice a day (dry food).

I have two males cats that would eat everytime I put food out. They are getting huge! So, I'm trying to cut back because they'd eat me out of house and home!

We feed our cat 3 times a day canned food. He also has dry food in his bowl all the time. We originally only fed him twice a day but he would yell and have us up starting at 1AM so by adding another can of food that has stopped somewhat. Now he just wakes us up about 4AM. He gets a can at 6AM, 4PM and 9PM. He's not a fat cat but a very large cat. He has been mistaken for a small dog several times which is funny.

Chloe gets fed twice a day. I measure her food according to the amount the vet said. If I didn't do this she would be 400 lbs.

Re: Cats and feeding

We brought our boys to my parents last night for Thanksgiving and they were like, holy crap, they are so fat. We got insulted. I said they are big boned, leave them alone...and it's muscle too.
