Celebs saying Humans are to blame for fires in cali....

I just read this on people.com....thought it was interesting.

Comedian George Carlin and actress Jamie Lee Curtis this week both suggested that the devastating wildfires raging in Southern California should not come as a surprise to a population that ravages the environment.

Offering his provocative opinion on The View Wednesday morning, Carlin paraphrased an old comedy rant of his, and characterized the fires as cosmic payback from a planet stretched to its breaking point.

'People are selfish,' he said. 'These people with the fires and the floods and everything, they overbuild and they put nature to the test, and they get what's coming to them, that's what I say.'

Joy Behar replied, 'That's a little harsh, George.'

But the 70-year-old comic continued: 'People think nature is outside of them. They don't take into [themselves] the idea that nature is a part of them.' Pointing to his chest, he said, 'Nature is in here, and if you're in tune with it, like the Indians – the balance of life, the harmony of nature – if you understand that, you don't overbuild, you don't do all this moron stuff.'

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Jamie Lee Curtis gave a similarly grim assessment of the situation, suggesting people are in 'ultimate denial' about what they're doing to the environment.

'Global warming, combined with people building houses in places they shouldn't, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera,' she said. 'It just compounds to become, as they call it, a perfect storm experience here. It's not by accident. This isn't an act of God. This is an act of man.'

do they realize they are humans as well...and i am sure htey are not out there everyday trying to find ways to save the environment and nature....come on now celebs are ridiculous!!!

And meanwhile alot of the times htey are the ones who are asking to build a house here or there etcetc haha

ughh i just cant stand jamie lee curtis

ETA: I do feel us as humans do not take care of our environment as we should. But then again this isnt going to change what has been done for years and years....people arent all of a sudden going to care about the environment now it happened in Cali and although it is very sad and I wish we could help those people more I think people who arent effected by it just sit adn watch they arent going to change things....our enivornment is becoming the way ti is because of us yes but its not going to change

i agree, we can't change what has been done but doesn't mean we just say oh forget it its hopeless bc infact there are things we can do now but truth is ppl just dont do it. We have about 10 years to try to reverse some of the effects, dont know how likely that is. I hope that people might actually wake up and say oh no we do need to do something. It doesnt have to be you going out and campaigning but just personal things we each do that can help.

i totally agree with them. sure they may be doing the same thing all humans are but at least they realize it. alot of people are in denial about global warming and the weird weather patterns. i mean come on its friggin 70 degrees out at the end of October. A classmate of mine has family in her country, Russia and they tell her it rarely snows there anymore. The environment is changing at such a rapid pace and its not a good change.

exactly. if we had politicians that would all agree on global warming and the environmental changes, they could establish new laws and policies but since they dont everyones on their own side about the issue so nothing gets done.

tHERE IS proof about global warming, ice glaciers are melting alot faster than scientists thought they would have and look at greenland, the size of it has changed over the past few years.

This is an old blog i have on myspace, i put up info about what we can do in our daily lives to help, and on top of helping the environment all of these things will also help you save money on your bills

If everyone replaced an ordinary light bulb with a compact fluorescent one, we would diminish as much global warming pollution as taking 7 1/2 million cars off the road...The bonus is that you can also save money on your bills...change just one 75-watt incandescent bulb with a 20-watt fluorescent bulb, thus preventing an average of 737 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere per 10,000 hours of use...This will also cut your yearly electric bill by $42.

If you care to read more, here are some other ways you can help

-Turn down your heat from 70-68 degrees, saving 630 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and $48 on the gas bill...for every degree you turn down the thermostat between 70 and 60, you save 315 co2 pounds and $23.

-Set your water temperature to 120 degrees, it will cut co2 emissions by up to 249 pounds, and saving as much as $22

-Turn your refrigerator from 37 to 40 degrees and the freezer up to 5 degrees...it will save 415 pounds of co2 and save $24

-Wash your clothes in warm rather than hot water(hot water is hard on fabrics anyways) you will save 37 pounds of co2...and only wash full loads, same goes for your dishwasher

The most obnoxiously omnipresent substance in any house is phthalates. It shows up in soft plastics such as toys, flooring, vinyl shower curtains, theyre also in soaps, shampoos, candles and coating on pills...Phthalates interferes with sexual development. Pregnant women who carried the highest levels of certain phthaltes were more likely to give birth to baby boys with smaller than average genitalia, incompletely descended testes, and shorter perinea.

I agree 1000000000000000%. While I agree global warming is a serious threat, I don't need to hear it from a movie star....

Agreed!

Read this... go figure

LOOK OVER THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING TWO HOUSES AND SEE IF YOU CAN TELL WHICH BELONGS TO AN ENVIRONMENTALIST.

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas.
Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern 'snow belt,' either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

So the answer is:

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as 'the Texas White House,' it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

So whose house is gentler on the environment?

here is the sad part, celebrities are role models and kids do look up to them...you can have a politician say the same things and it wont get their attention as much, or a scientist and same thing most people dont even pay attention. The point is proven right here, its what made news and what we are talking about right now. I hate when celebs who dont know what theyre talking about start talking and sounding like idiots but honestly i am glad theres some celebrities who are taking a social stand. We have so many idiot celebrities who dont care about they say or do, and sad thing is people follow them and want to be like them, especially with young kids, we all say whats wrong with them and why dont celebrities do something more helpful with their lives and become better role models, so you know what if they will bring attention to a very important cause then i am all for it. This sadly is the world we live in, where celebrities are cherished around the world and they have ALOT of power
