I actually posted the reply to a similar posting as this some days ago -- this is an urban legend...not really true. This is not actually happening. On that post from maybe a week ago - I posted the link to the news story identifying it as fake. I am at a different computer (work) and do not have it here but if you search this topic from maybe a week or so ago you should find the link.

It took my cell phone number and registered it. Plus, I checked to verify my home phone number and it verified when I did it... they might not be letting telemarketers have cell phone numbers, but I think the website is legit - its a gov't site.

In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls on cell phones. Call this number from your cell phone 888-382-1222. It is the national Do Not Call list. It blocks your number for 5 years. Please pass on, here is the online form
I blocked my Cell. But then Last night on the news I heard this was a Hoax. The only thing that will happen with Cell phones is that they will go into directory assistance BUT ONLY if you register them.
Yes, I also heard that the cell phone companies are getting together to make up a directory, but that you have to 'opt-in' to it. It's not automatic. I also head that like all the major wireless companies are participating except verizon, but I could be wrong.
