DH and I want to get a family plan and get new phones. Our contracts are up this month, but we are torn between the few companies that we've been looking into. We have Nextel now and love it...we've never had a problem with them. We are looking into Sprint (same as Nextel, I know), Cingular and Verizon.
Can anyone recommend their carrier and/or help me figure out which one to stay away from?? thanks!

I use Verizon and would NEVER use anything else! I have never had a problem with them and I've been using them for about 10 years now. HTH!

DH and I have verizon right now, and we used to have great service, and now we both have dropped calls daily and sometimes our phones are next to us and we get voicemails cus they don't ring. I'd stay away from verizon if you plan to actually be able to use your phone...

I would go with Verizon..I have had them for 4 years and FH loves them too and he is on a family plan!!! But that's all gonna change soon!!!! I would stay away from T-mobile...Allot of dropped calls! And Nextel too!! ugh...

Looks like everyone is saying Verizon as well!! DH and I have had the same phone numbers for years first with Nextel and now with Verizon. I think we have had Verizon for the past 6 years and we have had no personal complaints about the quality of the service!

definitely verizon! i've had it for about 6 years now, and have never had any problems with it. we swtiched to a family plan almost a year ago, and DH is very happy w/the service too. he previously had AT&T, and always had problems with service. the only downfall to verizon (if you can call it that) is their lack of 'cute' phones. i really dont' care what phone i have as long as it works, but i've known a lot of people who will put up w/ bad service because they like the phones that service had to offer.

I have Verizon too and so does FH. We have no issues. There are a couple of areas that don't get great reception. The beach would be one of them. My sister lives in Rockaway and outside it's not bad but in the house the reception is questionable and also, oddly enough certain parts of N. Bellmore my service is weak.

honestly i wouldn't get sprint. They are having alot of problems and there was an article that they might go bankrupt. Dh and I have had a plan together with sprint for over a year and not crazy with the service. Dh just cancelled his contract with sprint this weekend and got at&t. Even though we had the plan together he was able to cancel his but keep me on it. He had ALOT of service problems.

I had Nextel and then got Verizon and had BOTH at hte same time..
I got rid of Nextel cuz the contract was finally up and plus the service was weak.....
Example: Robert Moses Field 5:
Nextel: NOTHING Verizon: CAN YOU HEAR ME?! LOUDDDDD AND CLEAR!!!! lol
Def verizon, but I do have some issues, but it's usually the phone that's the problem, and they're quick to make you happy... lol

I'm surprised Sprint is so bad and Nextel is so good. Thanks for the info....we went to look today and are probably sticking with Nextel, just getting new phones.

VERIZON! I had AT&T for a whole week and didn't get service at home, my parents' house or work! Some places it doesn't make a difference, but parts of the city, the North Shore, and a million other little pockets don't get service with anyone else. My sister has a fancy iPhone, but has to use my piece of junk to make calls when we are out sometimes.

its weird but we both had sprint, well we were under the same contract. My service is pretty good but Dh's never was so thats weird. I get good reception most of the time, very rare i dont get good reception.
I decided to stick with sprint for now, he just got the iphone this past weekend but i told him i dont want the iphone so not gonna switch, but originally he was gonna switch both of us to at&t and get iphones.
