what's with the houses being so affordable over there..is anyone familiar with the area that can shed some light???

It isnt one of the better school districts in the area... but it also isnt one of the worst... that's why the houses are a bit more affordable...

I moved to centereach 3 years ago and LOVE it! it is Middle Country SD which is in the middle as far as SD are concerned. The area has been turning over in that a lot of young families are moving in and fixing up outdated houses. My neighborhood is very safe and all my neighbors watch out for eachother. When we first moved in, I would accidently leave my door unlocked and never had a problem. Like any area, you have some areas that are not as nice as others. They are usually near main roads.

SD wise, I am a teacher and really want a good SD for my kids. I grew up in and now teach in Smithtown. I have compared the school report cards for the 4th grade ELA's with my school's and Middle Country's ELA was only 1% lower- not too shabby!

When we first bought here I didn't think I'd want to spend the rest of my life here. Now I totally think differently!

Yep, the prices of houses are among the most affordable on LI, but they are beginning to increase! When we bought we got our house for $240K, and we refinanced last year and our house was appraised for $450! I think that was well worth the investment.

i'm so glad for all of you making a profit..that is awesome..thank you for your thoughts. we're still deciding if we're going to leave or not but i'm so scared that if we don't leave and buy something we won't be able to afford it next year when i'm done with school...UGGGHH the choices we need to make as adults

We are mentioning how much our home as escalated in price as perspective. Centereah has had a bad rap but with all the younger couples moving in the area is 'up and coming' so to speak!
